Have u checked w/ scan tool for codes? If not, have garage, dealer, or parts store (free service at most parts stores) check for stored codes, and as u know, Chrysler is known for their c_rappy trannys,. I just had mine rebuilt at 125k (I changed the fluid and filter every 30k, but still failure). Limp mode is to protect from further damage, so something is going on. If no stored codes, drop the trans pan, check for metal in pan and on magnet, color of fluid, burnt odor? Let me know what u find. good luck

My 1998 dodge durango slt wont drive past 40 miles an hour

Hello Jeff Winner,

Over the last 20 years ... cars have has a LIMITED OPERATION FEATURE added... When the engine READS something that is not IMMEDIATELY catastrophic... it will allow you to
LIMP home... rather than a complete shut down.

Limp mode:
You SHOULD also have a CHECK ENGINE light... (?)

My best advice is to limp on down to your near-by FREE code reading shop... and have a READER tell you what CODES are registered...

A blocked exhaust system will also seriously SLOW your progress
((soon to stop all-together)).

Hope this helps

Check you exhaust prices BEFORE you go...!!

Honda Civic car will not go over 20 miles per hour and doesn't and doesn't go over 3000rpm stopped in park or even driving after 10 miles

This is known as "get me home" mode/limp mode.
It is designed for you to get the car safely to the side of the road. Needs to go to a garage as there is a fault somewhere which will probably need attaching to a computer to investigate.

Went on trip, drove a little over 500 miles to destination. When went from one freeway to another car seemed to go into a limp mode after slowing to bout 20- 25 mph. I reset by putting it in park turning...

PO456 is most times a gas cap or gasket,
to get an incorrect gear ratio the transmission has probably started to slip.

Change the fluid and filter first off in the transmission and use only atf+4 fluid and possibly the govenor pressure sensor, and change gas cap.

93 plymouth voyager will not go faster than 30 mph fluid level is good

There is a problem with the transmission internally - it is in limp mode to protect it from damage - to confirm this is the problem, disconnect battery for a minute and then reconnect and drive -- should drive ok for a moment , but then go back into limp mode

1998 Plymouth Voyager does not shift to 3rd gear when driving,3.3

It's in limp home mode. You'll have to check wire connections and electronic controls. If it has a vacuum modulator you can remove it and look for trans fluid on the vacuum hose side (meaning ruptured diaphram). Double check the parts you replaced as well, especially if they were used parts. My dad went through three speed sensors in one year on his Caravan. You should drop the pan after checking other components. It could be a bad relay, shorted module or wire. The three speed transmissions are much more reliable than the four speed overdrive transmissions but with age and miles things can go wrong and parts will wear out.
