It depends on the failure. If the circuit to the intake air temperature sensor is open, it most likely will start but it may not run or idle correctly because it will cause the computer to go into failsafe mode. If the circuits to the sensor are shorted together or shorted to ground it could affect several other sensors and cause all kinds of problems including a no-start condition.
The Intake Air Temperature sensor in your vehicle is built into the Mass AirFlow sensor and could affect the operation of the Mass Airflow depending on the particular failure. Mass Airflow sensor problems are a common cause of no-starts.

Have you replaced your PCV hose? If it gets sucked in it will cause a lot of problems.

SOURCE: Where is the intake air temperature sensor 1/

Yes, you can do it. The intake air sensor is the first sensor in the air duct from the air filter. On some vehicles it may be in the air box. Good Luck, ned

Location air temp sensor

Location of Intake Air Temperature Sensor:
The intake air temperature sensor, which is mounted on the mass air flow meter, monitors the intake air temperature. The intake air temperature sensor has a built-in thermistor with a resistance that varies according to the temperature of the intake air. When the intake air temperature becomes low, the resistance of the thermistor increases When the temperature becomes high, the resistance drops .

What does the IAT sensor do on atoyota landcruiser

The IAT sensor(intake air temp sensor does just what it says it measure the intake air temperature and sends this signal to the computer, this is actually a minor input signal the more important one is the engine coolant temp sensor, the computer looks for a large deviation between the two sensors mainly when the engine is cold,if the temperatures are within a certain window the computer gives the ok to start the engine both sensors are input to the ECM but the IAT temp is only a small factor in air fuel mixture adjustment by the computer.
