I worked at
a wrecking yard where I pulled hundreds of airbags. I want you to
understand, they can be dangerous if handled improperly. You need to take precautions.
Some warnings before you begin. Take these Seriously!!!
Alway wear safety glasses.
Control the environment - no kids, pets, people horsing around.
Disconnect the negative battery terminal. After you
are done, make sure no one is inside the vehicle when you reconnect the
battery. If your vehicle has an anti-theft system, you'll need to get
your activation codes to reset your sound system.
Do not use solvents to clean your airbags. They may ignite if accidentally deployed. Use only a damp cloth.
Airbags are sensitive to heat in excess of 190 degrees F. Store them accordingly.
Airbags are sensitive to impact - handle them carefully
Airbags are sensitive to static electricity - ground
yourself, Spray the seat and rug with fabric softener (anti-static -
ever heard the term 'static cling')
Be safe
The procedures are pretty simple
Drivers Side:
Disconnect the negative battery cable.
Locate and pull the Airbag fuse.
Take a ten minute break (allows the firing charge to dissipate)
Loosen and remove the retaining screws from behind the
steering wheel. Rotate the wheel as needed to access the screws. You
may need to purchase new retaining screws in advance to install the new
bag.
Return the wheel to the straight ahead position.
Lift the airbag assembly out and disconnect the wiring connector from the rear of the unit.
Inspect the clockspring for damage. If it looks broken, bent or pinched, replace it. If there are hidden defects, the diagnostic module will detect them. If you are in doubt, replace it.
Unwrap the new airbag (carefully).
Connect the the wiring connector and seat the airbag into the steering wheel. Be sure the wire doesn't get pinched.
Install the new retaining screws and tighten them securely.
Passenger side:
Loosen and remove the passenger side dash retaining screws
Move it downward to release the retaining clips and remove.
Unscrew the airbag retaining screws along the edge of the airbag.
Move the airbag assembly downward the release it fom its mounting pegs.
Remove the airbag from the dash, disconnecting the
wire as soon as you are able. I believe your model has mounting guides,
if so save them.
If there were guides, place them back into the mounting frame.
Position the airbag over the mounting frame and reconnect the wiring connector.
Mount the new airbag, securely tighten the retaining screws.
If you are replacing the air bags, you should replace the front left and right crash sensors, the spiral cable under the steering wheel, AND the center air bag sensor, which is in front of the console. If your car has seat-belt pretensioners and force limiters, you may have to replace them also. You will know this if the seat belts are "locked up". If you do not replace all of the parts, you may get a air-bag code, and the air bags may not deploy next time.
The module is under the passenger side seat, under the carpet. You will have to remove the seat to access it easier.Lift up the carpet and it will be mounted to the floor.

if there was no collision and the air bag light is on there is a code set in the module that needs to be pulled then checked out. with the light on you have no air bag operation. the module can only be reset if the problem is corrected and the use of a scan tool is used to reset module.
Yes the air bag system is in the steering wheel. The horn is there also. A certified repair shop has to service this by law. The repair cost is really close to the actual. I would do without the horn myself.
1990 Buick REATTA Recall ID from NHTSA: 90V164000Auto Recall Date: 09/06/1990
Vehicle Component: POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:LEVER AND LINKAGE:FLOOR SHIFT
Estimated Vehicles Affected: 63964
1990 BUICK REATTA Defect Summary:
TRANSAXLE SHIFT CONTROL CABLE MAY DISENGAGE FROM THE FROM THE
FLOOR SHIFT CONTROL WITH LOSS OF GEAR INDICATOR REFERENCE AND SHIFT
SELECTOR OPERATION.
Defect Consequence:
DRIVER WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO DETERMINE ACTUAL GEARPOSITION THE
TRANSAXLE IS IN, WHICH COULD RESULT IN UNEXPECTED VEHICLE MOVEMENTAND AN
ACCIDENT WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING.
Remedy:
INSTALL A TRANSAXLE SHIFT CONTROL CABLE RETAINING CLIP TO PREVENT CABLE DISENGAGEMENT.

1990 Buick REATTA Recall ID from NHTSA: 90V031000Auto Recall Date: 02/12/1990
Vehicle Component: AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:SENSOR/CONTROL MODULE
Estimated Vehicles Affected: 857
1990 BUICK REATTA Defect Summary:
THE FORWARD SENSOR FOR THE AIR BAG MAY HAVE BEEN INCORRECTLY
CONSTRUCTED WITH PART OF THE WIRING HARNESS TO THE SENSOR REVERSED.
Defect Consequence:
THE REVERSAL OF THE WIRES COULD CAUSE DELAY IN THE DEPLOYMENT OF
THE AIR BAG AND INCREASE THE SEVERITY OF THE OF INJURY TO AN UNBELTED
DRIVER IN AN ACCIDENT.
Remedy:
REPLACE FORWARD DISCRIMINATING SENSOR AS NECESSARY.
Notes: GENERAL MOTORS CORP.
The only way to turn off the air bag light is with a diagnostic scan tool.
This scan tool will need to have air bag software installed to communicate with this module.
Good luck.
have vehicle scanned some stores such as auto zone /advanced auto scan for free code will give u a place to start-- if start going thru air bag wire system and modulars can set off air bag(s) causing injury
SECTION 501-20B: Occupant Restraints — Passive — Supplemental Air Bag System
2000 Villager Workshop Manual
REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
Module —Driver Air Bag
Removal WARNING: The backup power supply energy must be depleted before any air bag component service is performed. To deplete the backup power supply energy, disconnect the battery ground cable and wait three minutes. NOTE: Repair is made by installing a new part only. If the new part does not correct the condition, install the original part and perform the diagnostic procedure again. If the vehicle was in a frontal collision and the air bag did not deploy, the air bag may not have been needed. Complete a diagnosis of the air bag system before installing a new driver side air bag module (043B13). Refer to Diagnosis and Testing in this section.
Disconnect the battery ground cable (14301). For additional information, refer to Section 414-01 .
Remove the two driver air bag module retaining bolt access covers (one shown).
Remove the steering wheel bottom cover to access the driver air bag module electrical connector.
Disconnect the driver air bag module electrical connector.
CAUTION: After removing, discard the driver side air bag module bolts and install new driver air bag module bolts during installation. Remove the two driver air bag module retaining bolts (one shown) and discard.
Remove the driver air bag module.
Separate the driver air bag module from the steering wheel and disconnect the horn pad switch.
