Nissan Altima brake light

I have a 2003 Nissan Altima and the brake lights stays on. It is not the rubber stop for the switch, or the switch itself, as I had it checked. Even with the switch disconnected, the light still remains on. I even jumper wired the 2 terminals of the switch, just in case the switch is a normally closed switch.

Somone told me that it could be the cruise control switch. I even disconnected that, and the light still remains on.

Would you be able to guide me as to what this problem is?

Thanks
calvin

What that means is your socket is is probably shorted to your running lights there is a constant feed of voltage to that circuit. i would take a circuit probe and trace a wire to the spot of the short. good luck.

Brake lights will not turn off on my 94 Nissan Altima

Your problem should be that the rubber stops that are mounted at the top of your break pedal came out or are worn down too much to press the buttons all the way in.
What they do is push the button that switches off your break lights when the break pedal is released (yes, kind of backwards way to design it, i know). That's why your lights stay on even when your car is off. I had to go to the junkyard to find replacements for mine and they are a ***** to replace.
They are chipped away easily by the break switches when your car shakes badly over a prolonged period of time. Like driving a couple of weeks on a bad front tire.

2003 Nissan Sentra Brake lights stay on

When you depress the brake pedal, the brake pedal will move away from the brake light switch and cause a close circuit and the brake lamps light up. There is a rubber bunk on the pedal which pushes against the brake light switch to shut it off when you release the brake pedal. Most likely this rubber bunk has either fallen off or disintegrated leaving a hole in the brake pedal so there is nothing to push against the switch to shut it off. Look up the brake pedal until you see the brake light switch, then depress the brake pedal to see if the rubber bunk is still there. It is easy to replace. Or you can use some double sided adhesive tape and a coin and stick the coin over the hole in the brake pedal.

Nissan Altima 1995 Brake Light swith staying on

I know this is outdated but for those with this problem which i had too, it is a rubber stopper that attaches to the brake pedel itself to keep the switch depressed on my car for there is 2 switches and there is 2 rubber stops attached to the brake pedal. this being gone will cause the brake lights to stay on all the time.

1995 Nissan Altima brake switch troubles

sounds like you got a faulty switch... even though it's new, take it back and try again. Sounds like the switch is stuck in the closed position. Disconnect the switch and make sure that makes the lights go out.
