I have a chevy c3500 with a 6.5 turbo diesel, the times that it has happened
to me was because of a dirty fuel filter or water, most diesel have a bleed off
valve to dissipate any accesss water in the fuel line, on my truck is located
on the right front side of the engine . you bleed it off when the engine is
turned off. good luck
It could be the high pressure oil pump for the fuel system or a faulty fuel injector that allows air into the fuel system causing an air lock in the fuel rail.
It could be the high pressure oil pump..But usually it wont do anything but turn over..If you have a scanner look at the FICM module and see if you have 48 volts..This module controls the fuel injection..If it drops out it can cause that problem..If it ends up being that ..you can purchase the module and hook it up ,,but after it installed you have to have it program ,,so the vehicle will start..Some dealerships will program it with the vin number,,but very few.

Sounds like a stuck egr valve

dies the truck restart once it cools off? it is very common for th 6.0 to have high pressure oil issues on a hot soak. they will run till the cows come home but once shut off they can not build up enough pressure by cranking speed alone to start truck until it cools down and the seals become rigid enough to bridge the gaps they are sealing in the first please. if this is the case. it may be the STC fitting ojn the back of the high pressure oil pump (intake and turbos must be removed to check) or possibly the branch tube o rings have worn. the branch tubes are located under the valve covers and supply the fuel injectors the oil they need to perform their "power stroke"...

Bad glow plugs most probably or the glow plug controller. to check your glow plugs remove wire and check with ohm meter to ground. if they are working you should get a low ohm reading if one has a high ohm reading it is bad. if all injectors check good make sure your fuses are ok, also check and see if you hear the controller click when you turn the key to on. Does the wait to start light come on?

when you get a code the PCM will keep that code and till it get easased. you need a scaner or disconect your battery for 1h. this should clear your codes. when the battery is disconected don't sit in your can. the air bags may deploy if you hit the steering collem or a sensor to hard. just let it sit. reatach your battery then try to start your truck. if the codes are still pressent you make need let the car sit for longer or bit the big one and get the shop to do it.

sounds like a high pressure oil leak most likely at the stc fitting this problem is still covered under fords 5 year 100000 mile warranty

If you have the 6.0 ltr diesel, then check the bowl where the 2nd fuel filter is, see if there is fuel in the bowl, if not then either your fuel pump which is on the frame under the driver's side in the water seperator/ heater has gone bad, or your filters could be bad, or the fuse to the fuel pump or the pump shut off switch which is located on the side panel at your feet on the passengers side, there is a reset button, make sure it has not popped and press it down, hopefully this helps, I had the same prob.
