1999 Firebird cranking problem

Engine cranked as normal and died, unaware for about two minutes that it had died. Tried to recrank and it did then went dead, strong gas smell. Let sit and repeated same results. After 4 or 5 tryies white smoke came out tail pipe and extreme gas smell. Any suggestions?

Well first the white smoke indicateds water in fuel system. if you have a strong fuel smell that would indicated that your getting way too much fuel. there are several reasons for this. it could be that the fuel pressure regulater is malfunctiong. the throttle position sensor is bad. it could also be a timing issue.

Inhave a 1999 ford expedition it cranks like a dream but when put in gear it sputters and dies recranks great the sputters and dies in gear

You have a transmission problem. Tcc(torque converter clutch) solenoid stuck. Basically when you put it in drive, it is starting out in overdrive. Causing the engine to die.

Why does my 95 pontiac firebird sputter and want to die when i give it gas?

Could be a mass air flow sensor or a MAP sensor problem , but without testing that is just a guess . Take your vehicle to a qualified repair shop that has the proper diagnostic tools an knows how to use them . Using a scan tool to view engine sensor data parameters .Fuel trim's ,short an long term , are the O2 sensor's switching normally, coolant temp. A lot more involved then a fuel filter . engine management system.

When you first crank - it has to spin over engine longer than normal to get started and once warmed up to normal temp it almost impossible to recrank again if turned off you have to try for long period of...

fuel pump, spray wd40 into the intake before trying to start, if it starts right up then the fuel pump maybe the filter needs to be replaced. if it does not then its ignition. but if it starts when cold and then does not when hot, you will notice lost of power and muffled backfires if so then I would rplace the fuel pump. Hope this helps Tim

My 97 firebird died on a stop light. A guy told me that its the crank sensor gone bad. I need to see a pic or diagram of its location to replace it.

it's usually on the front of the engine by crank pulley, cylindrical with one wire coming off it. Points at the crank damper. Some are other places but I'm not sure on this one. Try Googling crank sensor, 97 firebird.
