Hello. I happen to own a '99 and had to do the same. You can access the back of the bulb by removing your air filter and hose. This will free up room for you to reach the bulb.

Open the trunk. Grab the socket where the wires meet the body and twist gently counter clockwise. The socket will come out of the lens and you pull the bulb straight out.
