Knowing the color codes can be a great help..usually in 12v reg system, from the regulator there are 6 white wire having a stripe codes, blue means neutral, green means field, black means ground to body, white means hot wired to +12v,yellow means to bat charging indicator going to instrument panel and finally red means to ignition....and always secure the regulators case to ground.

I have a 1996 ford e150 new alternator good battery but won't charge was charging but quit is there a fuse or relay

There are a couple of fusible links and a regulator fuse . G 60amp located in the underhood fuse box. Is the charge indicator lit on the instrument cluster ? The fusible links connect at the starter relay on righ inner fender . Do you know what a fusible link is and what it looks like ? New alternator ? aftermarket or ford replacement ? Check for B+ voltage at wires on the alternator , to see which have B+ voltage look at wiring diagram at http://www.bbbind.com/free_tsb.html Enter vehicle info. yr . make , model , engine etc... System click engine , then charging system under subsystem . Click search . then click blue link .

Alternator wont charge batteries

I can't give you more than generalities without knowing your vehicle model.
The alternator has several connections: Battery charge, Battery sense, and Field. The charge wire carries charging current to the battery. Since there is a voltage drop across this wire, a separate sense wire feeds the actual battery voltage back to the regulator module inside the alternator. The regulator then controls the current going to the Field terminal (a winding inside the alternator), which in turn controls the charging current. There may also be a separate Ground wire, but usually the alternator frame is supposed to be grounded through its mounting bracket.
The first thing to do is check each of the terminals for corrosion or loose connections. In particular, if the alternator has recently been serviced, or if somebody was working near it, check ring terminals on threaded studs to see if they have been left loose. Make sure the connections are clean and free of corrosion or arc burn oxidation, especially at the battery. Make sure screw connections are snug, but do not over-tighten - you don't want to break the connector stud.
If the connections and wiring look good at both ends, check the voltages on the terminals. The charge terminal voltage will be slightly higher than the sense voltage. The difference will be proportional to the electrical demand on the system. The field voltage will show a larger change with load (e. g., it should increase significantly if you turn on the headlights). Voltages must be measured with the engine running, so be very careful not to get the test leads or yourself caught in the alternator belt.

2003 FORD E150 NEW ALT AND NEW BATTERY STILL NOT CHARGING

Your wiring diagram shows a fusible link between the battery and alternator. Also shows an optional voltage regulator. Trace the wire from the alternator back to the battery. Look for that fuse and regulator. I will paste the diagram below.
