I have a 2001 aztek. ABS light comes on. But my biggest problem seems to be that my car jerks like it is the transmission slipping. My husband had it looked at and was told it is the speed control censor. Is this an easy fix or do i need to get another car.

Better to do that with a high end scan tool. You can't do it by disconnecting the battery overnight, but that can cause all sort of new problems. Where you say your speedometer 'sets' at 55mph, do you mean always stays at 55 even stopped, or do you mean if 'sits' at 55 even if you are doing 110?

The most likely cause of all this the VSS (vehicle speed sensor)

You will need the systems control module scanned for fault codes, when the light is on a code is in memory.

get a rebuilt or used transmission. Jaguar says you don't have to change trans fluid because it should last the "life of the trans" which means it will die just like everything else. Fluid change will do no good. I just went thru this.

If the ABS light is on, then there is more than likely an issue with one of the wheel speed sensors. The only way to know for sure which sensor or if any thing else is worng. Is to take your car to a shop or dealer with the abilty to scan an abs system. I have been doing this a long time, and i can tell you this if a mechainic ever tells you that reseting the light will fix the issue then they are liying.

Transmission is slipping. Take it to a shop right away.

My 2000 did this just before the transmission went out completely. It's been some time, and I've come to the conclusion that the ABS pump puts pressure against the transmission when the computer fails on it (this pump). My new transmission was laggy/slippy until I pulled the ABS fuse just to check this theory, and viola! Torque I hadn't felt in 4 years. If your ABS light is on, and has been on for some time, this may be the case. I would take it to the nearest shop and have the ABS pump checked.

I need a little mor info. But the reason for the being stuck in 2nd gear is because when something goes wrong with the tranny. it goes into "LIMP" mode wich keeps the trans. from shifting out of 2nd when you are going forward. It does sound like your trans. is gone out though.

I had the same problem. I took off the tires and look at the wires, and both of the wires to the hub were broke. 10 min and some tape and problem was fixed.
