Hesitation My Nissan Sentra is a 2003 automatic with a 1.8 engine. While driving it will occassionally start jerking and just as quickly as it comes on it quits and goes back to running smooth. I have taken to a mechanic and the car acted fine all day. The mechanic put my car on the computer and there were no error codes or history codes. Is the fuel pump starting to go?

The fuel pump is definately a possibility. What did the technician suggest besides the fuel pump? Has your check engine light ever illuminated? How bad is the jerking? Does it stall?

try putting a couple of injector cleaner in the tank to clean the dirty injectors
there is a screw in the side of the ECM on Nissan vehicles that has to be turned before codes are revealed and there are stored codes , as misfires ( what you experience ) will be recorded

There is a sensor in the distributor that tends to cause this problem. The sensor is the called the camshaft position sensor and it is responsible for the ignition timing. If you have a timing light you can verify that the sensor is faulty by checking the timing while the engine is acting up. If the sensor is faulty, the timing will be erratic or just plain wrong. In many cases cleaning the sensor will correct the problem.

To clean the camshaft position sensor: Remove the distributor cap and rotor. This will give access to a metal plate that covers the sensor. Remove the screws the secure the plate and remove the plate. Inside there should be an optical sensor that you can clean using a spray type "Sensor Safe Air-Intake Cleaner". Eye protection is recommended when doing this.

Unfortunately, cleaning the sensor does not always fix the problem. In that case, the fix is to replace the distributor. Since the distributor is quite expensive and the problem could be something else, it is recommended that you use a timing light to check the ignition timing for any problems to confirm that the problem is the camshaft position sensor.

SOURCE: Car stutters at startup

My car did the same thing and I went and had it checked out. They had to replace my mass air flow censor. Cost me a little over $200. The only thing is after I had it fixed, my check engine light kept coming on. They said that my fuel line was running rich because I had ran my car so long with that problem. May want to get that checked out!

if there was no oil left in the engine then good chance of engine seizing.
do not carry on starting the engine as you will bend the valves.

I drive a 2003 Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec V.
My car suddenly stalled 1 day and the engine wouldn\'t turn over. Brought it to my mechanic and had the Camshaft position sensor replaced by my mechanic. The car ran fine for about 2 weeks and then the light was back on with the initial symptoms.

Took the car into the dealership and they diagnosed it again as P0335. Said that the mechanic hadn\'t installed the sensor correctly. Charged me a bunch of money to replace the thing and not too long ago the check engine light is on. The Revs bounce around everywhere. Checked the code again and it\'s P0335 yet again! Am in talks with the dealership to get to the bottom of this...

1995 sentra's are notorious for being pieces of shyte. Maby try and sell it to an old bag and put some "electrical tape over the warning light, hint, hint". Tell her the surging is a super charger and it can be easily removed.

try unplugging the mass air flow sensor. it's between the air filter and the engine throttle chamber. it has an electrical connector. if it idles fine, you need a new MAF sensor.
