You either have a head gasket leaking or a cracked or warpped head.

DID YOU BLEED AIR OUT THE COOLANT SYSTEM.TO BLEED COOLANT SYSTEM, FILL THE COOLANT SYSTEM THROUGH THE RESERVOIR TANK OR THE RADIATOR UNTIL THE FULL COLD MARK IS REACHED.BESURE TO USE 50/50 HALF WATER AND ANTIFREEZE.YOU CAN BUY ANTIFREEZE THAT IS ALREADY PREMIX 50/50.AFTER ADDING ANTIFREEZE TO RESERVOIR OR RADIATOR FILL RADIATOR TO FULL MARK OR IF YOU DONT HAVE RADIATOR CAP ON RADIATOR POUR ANTIFREEZE IN THE OVERFLOW JUG UNTIL COOLANT LEVEL STAY THE FULL COLD MARK.WAIT AWHILE UNTIL COOLANT LEVEL STOP DROPPING.NOW INSTALL THE RADIATOR OR OVER FLOW JUG CAP.START THE ENGINE AND ALLOW IT TO RUN UNTIL NORMAL OPERATING TEMPERATURE IS REACHED AND THE UPPER RADIATOR HOSE BECOME HOT.STOP THE ENGINE AND OBSERVE THE COOLANT LEVEL IN THE OVERFLOW JUG. THE COOLANT LEVEL SHOULD BE AT THE FULL HOT LINE.ALLOW THE ENGINE TO COOL UNTIL THE AMBIENT TEMPERATURE IS REACHED THEN CHECK THE COOLANT LEVEL IT SHOULD BE AT OR ABOVE THE FULL COLD LINE.ADD MORE COOLANT IF NECESSARY. WARNING BECAREFUL WHEN OPEN THE RADIATOR CAP OR JUG OVER FLOW CAP.USE A LARGE RAG OVER THE RADIATOR CAP TO KEEP FROM GETTING SCALDED.OPEN RADIATOR CAP A LITTLE AT A TIME TO KEEP FROM GETTING SCALDED.WAIT UNTIL ENGINE COOL DOWN BEFORE OPENING RADIATOR CAP OR OVERFLOW JUG CAP.WEAR SAFETY GLASSES.

What are some of the most common reason for a 2001 Pontiac Sunfire to overheat?

If there is no coolant leak. check the thermostat is opening, check that the radiator core is free from rubbish, check the air con fan comes on with the air con switch, make sure the squealing is not coming from binding brakes, check the engine cooling fan is working ok.

97 Cavalier overheats when idling..fan not working..replaced thermostat and relay sensor..Fan works when straight wired.

You may have a bad relay. Have you tested it to see if it is working or have you changed it out with a new one?

2002 ford windstar sel overheating

first check coolant level in radiator coolant level sound low.if coolant overflow jug empty.coolant sysyem low, when add coolant to coolant overflow jug coolant level should stay at full cold mark.if coolant level okay, engine overheat while sitting or moving in slow traffic either coolant fan relay or fuse could be bad.or engine coolant temperature sensor could be bad. coolant sensor turn on cooling fan at certain temperature.hot wire check to make sure cooling fan motor not bad or short in wires.if all is good have pcm check it controls fan relay to through the coolant temperature sensor signal when coolant get hot.

My car is rumming hot and the antifreeze is leaking I'm thinking it's my water pump

It could be the water pump , or something else , like a faulty thermostat. Where is the coolant leaking from ? If it is leaking from the water pump , then yes , your pump might be toast.
If the thermostat is no good , the engine will warm up to normal temp , and then overheat quite quickly. As it overheats and the coolant expands and boils , it could back up into the overflow reservoir and leak out onto the ground. You need to get someone to diagnose the problem ASAP , running your engine in an overheat condition could very quickly blow your head gasket and/or warp a cylinder head. If you can , please post a bit more info. Does it run but at a higher than normal temp. Does it only overheat when stopped in traffic etc.
Could be water pump , or thermostat , or plugged up radiator , or nonfunctioning cooling fans.

1997 Sunfire overheating

Did hubby put the thermostat in the right way round? Is the car driving ok no excessive smoke or steam as these cars are famous for the cylinder head gasket going south this would explain no coolant and the overheating? Does the electric fan come on? Look into the dipstick and see if there is any white mixture around it looks like mayo that’s an indication of water in the oil. Fill the radiator up again and let the car idle with the overflow tank cap of this will allow any trapped air to bleed of and help with any vapor lock. Did hubby make sure he scrapped all the old water pump gasket of the block before he put the new gasket and water pump on? If the surface was uneven e.g. old gasket still stuck on the block it would not seal correctly and leak hope this helps

2001 Pontiac Sunfire is dumping antifreeze out the overflow. Could it be something other than thermostat?

Common causes include: leak from engine, hoses, etc. causing overheat due to low coolant, electric fan not coming on, internally obstructed radiator, external obstruction to radiator (leaves paper. plastic bag on front of radiator of stuck between radiator and A/C condenser), bad thermostat and last, blown head gasket. Proper testing for any and all these conditions will give you the answer you are looking for. If the antifreeze is overflowing without any overheat, it can either be over-full, or in some cases, a head gasket can do this by filling the cooling system with exhaust and driving the coolant out.
