I have a 1991 Plymouth Acclaim - 4 cylinder. It will start and run for a while but if I make about 2 runs and come back out to start it, it just turns but will not catch. If I let it sit for about 4-5 hours and come back then it will start again but keeps repeating the same thing. The mechanic have put in new sparks plugs, new battery, new fuel pump and new gas tank. When I picked it up last Thursday, after 1 day it started doing the exact same thing again.

I asked the mechanic about the ignition coil and he said that he had replaced that also. This morning it started and so I decided to try driving to work which is about 5 minutes away and it just died as I got to the parking lot of my job. The mechanic says that he's looking for a computer to check the car. Is there such a thing for a 1991 Plymouth Acclaim?

Have your mechanic replace the fuel filter (should be with tune up) He changed out the gas tank (?) Filter at carb is probably choked. Kinda fits the symtoms.
Good luck

It sounds like your ignition coil is over heating. Was the coil replaced? Your mechanic should have checked voltage/resistance and replaced if needed since it is not too expensive and is a major part of tune-up and ignition system. You can change yourself in a few minutes and save some cash. I had the same problem and had to wait for coil to cool before it would start again. Hope this helps.

We have a 1991 Plymouth Acclaim and the belt that runs the water pump keeps slipping, what causes this?

Either water on the belt or it is worn out, or perhaps the bearings are getting tight and about to blow up.

My 1991 plymouth acclaim went dead and won't start. I dont't have fire to the distributor?

I had the same problem with my 1991 Plymouth Acclaim 3.0 liter engine. Check to see if your SBEC (computer located next to car battery) has gone out. Replacing it should solve your problem.

How hard is it to replace a stater on 4 cylinder acclaim

Not too terribly hard. You have to disconnect the battery, remove the two wires running to the starter, then the 2 bolts that hold it in. You will need to have it on ramps, or a lift to get it from underneath.
