SOURCE: just recently my car has been giving me problems

it would not be the spark plugs, modern cars can run just fine for 100,000 miles and more without a plug change, even when they are worn out u will never know it until you look at them when they are removed.I would place my 30 years of experience on the electric fuel pump malfunctioning.

SOURCE: 97 Ford Power Stroke, starting problem.

Does the starter engage the drive gear with the action of a solenoid? It may not be pushing (pulling) the gear far enough. There may be a slipping ring gear on the flex-plate. If you pull the starter again, you can try to see if the ring moves in and out or appears to be slipping around on the flex-plate. The flex plate could be loose on the crankshaft. In any case, the engine or the transmission would have to come out. Check the starter engagement before removing the torus and flex-plate.

2000 olds alero cranks then makes a metal grinding sound and won't start

You need to have your flywheel: replaced.Your starter motor engages against the fly wheel at the back of the motor. Every time your motor stops it tends to be in the same few positions (just the way things work) so there is more stress on some parts of your fly wheel than others. Because of this the teeth wear out on the fly wheel which means the starter can correctly engage on the fly wheel which is the grinding noise.

Cost to replace starter & flywheel on a 2003

for the starter and flywheel 1400 sounds right they would have to take the tranny out to get to the fly wheel but why do they need to replace the fly wheel did your old starter do a lot of grinding its not to often you have to replace a flywheel unless the starter wrecked it somehow again not to often starters are ment to break before it wrecks the flywheel the flywheel made of harder metel i would get a second opinion on replacing the flywheel
