"I have had my Chev Cruze 1.8 (Manual) for about 4 months now. At about 4500 km's - I got a fault codE 79 as a warning. I checked the oil out of curiosity & it had dropped to the halfway mark. When I took it to the dealer, they said there was a modification to a fuel pipe. However, after they changed the fuel pipe, I still received this error code. In the mean time, I noticed drops/lags in power, especially when driving uphill & also when using climate control. The next time I took the car in (about 8100km), I noticed the oil had dropped to almost the bottom mark. I told the maintenance guy about this & they just filled up the oil. He didn't think it had anything to do with the fault code. I haven't had the fault code reappear since then. I still haven't got a satisfactory response about the fault code (what it means) - they say that the software was updated. I was also told taht its normal for the vehicle to use oil! About 1 litre/pint per 1000 km's"
and this:
Code 79 Top up engine oil. All information is given in the Owners Manual
it was happened to my car while it was only 9 th. km , and first day. "code 79"
service checked oil stick and oil sensor cable. than "code 79" signed again.
SEE YOUR SENSOR HERE (item 27):
*** yA know... seems MANY people are having problems with "this sensor" and perhaps GM needs to replace or design one that is more compatible with this car engine?
Also I noted MANY COMPLAINTS about "high oil usage" ~ so perhaps this 'early warning' is better?
Start on a day you're not using the car. park it in a spot where any fluid leaks will be imeadiately obvious and if you see a fluid leak jack the vehicle on the spot and get under it and start looking for wet spots. It could be something as simple as a bad or loose hose clamp.
BEST TO LET DEALERSHIP CHANGE ENGINE OIL.YOU NEED A DEALERSHIP OIL FILTER.YOUR OIL FILTER INSIDE A HOUSING ON FRONT SIDE OF THE ENGINE. You cannot change the filter unless you have access to a lift or pit. It is located on the back of the engine, recessed above the front axle. I took mine to a friends garage and even with the car raised, it still took a filter wrench on an extension bar to get to it. It is impossible to reach it if all you have is a jack or ramps in the driveway.
There are these bleeder hoses that will fit on the bleeder fitting. You put the end into a cup of brake fluid so it can't **** air back in. That might help your situation.
Go to Walmart buy four quarts of oil it will say in the owners manuel what to get, a oil filter the store will have a book to look up the car know the engine size and model,a filter wrench, a drain pan and a jack to carefully jack up the front area of the passenger side of the car . I use a old rag and double fold it so the jack dosent mess up the jack point of the car. It will tell you also in the owners manuel where to jack it. PLEASE do not use the factory jack to go under the car buy one. OR go to the dealer and ask for a oil change coupon or go to Goodyear .
I don't know for sure, but I'd imagine oil, oil filter, and air filter changes, tire rotation, brake and strut inspection, and maybe a cabin air filter change. Look in your owner's manual near the back - each service should be spelled out in there so you don't go in unprepared.
