There is a wound up ribbon conductor inside the hub of the steering called the clockspring, it has likely gone bad. It's a pretty common problem. Phone the dealer or your repair shop and ask them how much to replace the clockspring, this is probably not something you should do yourself.

If you want to replace a airbag that's been deployed; YOU MUST REPLACE THE ENTIRE AIRBAG SYSTEM!
If you don't understand the system, you're bound to seriously injure yourself.
Take it to your dealer and let them fix it.

When the airbag light is on (or flashes off and on) it means a fault has occurred in the system and the airbag diagnostic monitor has disabled the system, the most common problem that turns the light on is a break in the connection to the steering wheel mounted airbag, this is due to a rotating ribbon contact that breaks under the steering wheel that connects the airbag to the wiring harness and the diagnostic monitor, the part is called th clock spring contact, a coiled up ribbon electrical contact that turns with the wheel

You will have to have your codes reset,most shops can do this for you if they have the diagnostic tools.
If it goes out and comes back on then you will have to go to the dealer or a good body shop,to have it fixed.
