Make sure the shift lever on the transmission is actually shifting the shaft that selects the gears.....Something is slipping where you installed the bushing.....Check for proper cable adjustment....Apply the E- Brake while working with cable to prevent accidental runaway........
I assume your car is an automatic. First check that the oil level is correct. If it is low, the transmission will slip in the way you describe. If the oil level is OK, then the transmission is faulty and will need to be overhauled.
Check the following:
- Thrust bearing, clutch.
TEST: Pull up the hand brake. Start the engine and let it at idle speed.
Depress the clutch pedal, put the car in 1st gear, while keeping the clutch pedal depressed. If the gear lever hesitates or produce any abnormal noise, replace the clutch thrust bearing.
- If the gear lever shifts smoothly, clean the throttle body, idle air control valve and perform idle speed learn learn procedure.
- Check the valve clearance.
There are times, such as approaching a roundabout, turning into a junction or coming down a hill when I have slowed down and then want to accelerate away again. When I put my foot on the accelerator, the car acts as though it has gone into neutral or that the clutch is slipping. I have tried watching the display to see what gear it is in when it does this, but can't see a pattern.
I have tried driving in ES mode but it made it worse.
Also, when in automatic mode, I sometimes get a bleeping noise at low speed but the manual says this happens in manual mode!
Has anyone else had these problems and found a way round them or do you think I should take the car back? I have done 2500 miles.
There are 2 different listings for a VSS for that model Corolla - one
for the 1.6 3 speed automatic, and another for 1.6 manual and all 1.8
applications. It appears to be located on the top rear side of the
transaxle case.
When the light comes on, does the speedometer act strangely?
