I'm having problems with my 1999 Mit Pajero 2.8 intercooler turbo. I'm loosing pressure in the fuel pump and when startint the engine cold or have been standing for a long time at the parking lot it would not start. my solution is pump the fuel pump (the one with the filter) manually and the enginge will statrt after a couple of tries. also when the pajero is an inclined road going up (usually a bridge or a long ramp) the engine dies or stalls if get into traffic for few minutes. and just recently I've been experiecing high revs about 1600 to 1800 rpms wether with the AC on or not. when before it was just at 800 to 1100 rpms. I hope somebod could gie me some suggestions to fix it. thanks!

Hi there!
low fuel pump pressure may be causing the high rpm beacuse intake is getting more air than gasoline I can tell you a few things to try but first I have to know if you already replaced fuel filter...?

What causes low boost on Detroit engines 60series,dd13 dd15

boost is produced by adding extra fuel in the combustion process to create a hotter exhaust and more exhaust gas pressure
boost is produced as the exhaust turbine winds up from that extra heat / pressure produced from the extra fuel
loose intercooler hoses , cracked intercooler will loose that extra boost
so it could be from the fuel controller ( throttle position sensor) is not working properly, boost pressure being lost by holes in the system or-- from experience-- a problem turbo unit ( bent vanes on the compressor wheel from impurities hitting then at speed creating an excessive turbulence and slowing down the turbo action
best take it to an accredited service center and have the fault codes read and a diagnosis of the problem

Hi steve re code 0299

Hi Gayle, this error is Turbo under boost, so it will not stay on unless turbo is constantly reading under boost! possible causes are.....

  • Intercooler air hose disconnected or damaged
  • Vacuum hose of manifold absolute pressure sensor disconnected or damaged
  • Failed manifold absolute pressure sensor
  • Failed engine-ECU

Tubro was making 40lbs of boost, now only 20 what's going on

turbos generate boost fro the heat in the exhaust and the free flow of exhaust gases. That means the amount of fuel through the injectors and blocked cat converter or exhaust system. OK now you know how the boost is generated look for areas that will loose the pressure (boost ) between the turbo and the manifold Look for loose boost hose clamps on the turbo and intercooler and intercooler and manifold. Look for cracks or holes in intercooler. Look for blocked air cleaner as turbos use more air through the air cleaner than normal. Finally look at the compressor blade of the turbo as any bent fin will slow down the turbo wheel giving less boost. Have the turbo tested for correct operation

But I have a 98 Pajero 4m40. It starts and idles nicely, but upon acceleration, engine sounds terrible, almost like a non turbo L200 engine, even with the intercooler connected and turbo whistling. Please help.
