Get your owners manual out of the glove box, find fuse panel. there is a legend in the manual and on the back of the panel cover as to what is what. find the fuse for the airbag and remove it. then wait a half hour before disconnecting any of the airbag connections.

How do remove a steering wheel from 1996 opel astra

Most steering wheels are held on with a large nut or a large bolt. To get to it you will need to remove the airbag.
**Caution** FIRST remove the negative cable from the battery to stop any power going to the Airbag. The Airbag has an Explosive charge built into it so be careful when handling it.
On the back of the steering wheel, roughly level with the indicator/wiper stalks, there are two holes. In each of these is a Torx bolt holding the airbag assembly in place. I think it's either a T27 or a T30. You will need a reasonably long Torx tool as they can be quite deep in the holes on certain models.
The airbag body should lift up and away from the steering wheel. This will reveal a Yellow wire to the back of the Airbag. CAREFULLY disconnect this wire. You will need to unhook the yellow peg on the connector before it will pull off. Put the airbag down somewhere where it won't get dropped, kicked or tripped over. I usually tuck it under the car so it's well out of the way.
Now you have safe access to the retaining bolt on the steering wheel. There is another black wire connector mounted in the steering wheel which you will need to disconnect.
The mounting bolt is an E20 torx head. Sometimes these bolt can be in very tight so you might need a power bar for leverage. Don't remove the bolt all the way. Pull the steering wheel toward you until you feel it go loose. Leaving the bolt in it stops the steering wheel smacking you in the face if it comes loose suddenly. Remove the bolt all the way and lift the steering wheel off.
**NOTE** There is a spinning plate directly behind the steering wheel. Pay close attention to where it is positioned as this controls when you turn signal clicks off after a turning a corner.
Refitting is...
-Reposition back plate for the indicators.
-Thread the yellow and black cables back through the steering wheel.
- Line up the steering wheel and push it into position.
- Refit the centre bolt and tighten until good and tight.
- Reconnect the black cable.
- Retrieve the airbag from under the car and reconnect the yellow wire. Make sure it is pushed all the way on and push the yellow retaining clip back into place.
- Mount the airbag back into the steering wheel and refit the two T27 bolts. It'll be a Pain in the Tailbone as they usually don't line up on your first attempt.
- Reconnect your battery Negative cable.

2012 Hyundai Elantra, horn and cruise control not working from steering wheel, but the radio controls are working (radio controls on left side, cruise control on right). Could it be the clockspring?

It could be, but you need to do some trouble shooting to determine the issue. Is there power to the switches? is there power to the clock spring? Is there continuity through the clock spring? Determining where the issue is will save $$.

normally on the wiper stalk under the steering wheel opposite side to the indicators. Up for burst operation. down for intermittent , down again slow speed and down again for faster. Some units twist the knob for different speed intermittent operation. This unit controls the wiper operation

Wipers only work when i indicate left

I think you need to replace the wiper switch.
Removing the switch can be a pain.. Firstly, you need to remove the trim around the steering column. Now this may be difficult as you may need to remove the steering wheel first. This is complicated by the fact that you have Airbag on the wheel that must be disarmed properly by a tech...
Scared yet..? Don't be, ok if you can get the trims off, check and see if the switch is screwed into the column retainer. If you can see the screw heads by looking down the shaft of the switch, good, remove the screws and the switch should come out just enough for you to unlock the wiring, unlock the wiring taking note of which plugs go where and take the stalk out. If you cannot see any screws, then remove the steering wheel as it may all be one assembly. Once the wheel is off and the trims are off, there should be four screws holding the assembly onto the column. Once these are out and you have released the wiring, the switch assembly should come out. Next, look for the wires which go up inside the stalk itself and take note of where they connect. Now, on the end of the stalk, there should be a small cap which covers a clip which holds the switch onto the end of the stalk. Gently prise out the cap and the clip (dont lose either the cap or the clip) and draw the switch off the end of the stalk. If it is the type I am thinking of, the switch will come off and you can see the wiring into the switch. Now, gently give each wire a tug, that is, pull it back from the switch. If any of the wires seems to stretch, then replace that wire, crimp or solder a new length of wire to the switch and to the connection on the other end. If non of the wires stretch, pull them the other way, down to the main assembly and replace any that stretch.
Then, reassemble the switch and stalk, replace the trims and refit the steering wheel.
If you have an airbag in the steering wheel, you may need special screwdriver tips to remove the screws holding the steering wheel cover on, the nut holding the wheel on is under this cover. They usually use torx screws in here.
The steering wheel is fitted to a tapered shaft so leave the nut on a couple of threads and by placing both feet on the fllor behind the pedals and pulling, you can usually get the wheel off otherwise you may have to use a wheel puller. NEVER use a hammer on this assembly EVER !!!!
Once the airbag is off, dont turn the ignition on as this may set a fault code and cause the airbag lamp to come on disabling the airbag system. DONT probe any wires that have a yellow sheath or outer covering or yellow connectors on them. You really dont want an airbag going off anywhere near your head !!!
Take your time and if you need too, draw little pictures of where things went to remind you when you reassemble things.
Now, there is always the chance that you have a body control module, this means that when you operate a switch, all you are doing is sending a signal to a computer. This computer then operates the device. If this is the case then you need to check the switch ( yes I know this is a pain) but then you may need to check the control module as well. This may be better done by a professional.

How do i change my signal switch in my 1993 mazda 929

Hi Shannon, befor you dive in and replace the indicator switch I would suggest you check the flasher unit. To replace the indicator switch you will need to remove the steering wheel (this usually means using a puller) Don't forget to punch match marks on the steering wheel and the column which must be aligned when assembling. Remove the steering wheel center cover. then the covers on the steering column Removed the screws (usually four) holding the stalk switch. don't forget to disconnect the battery and the wiring connection to the stalk switch. After replacing the assembly is opposite.to dismantling. Regards John

How do you chang turn sig/ wiper control arm on 91 s10 blazer?

These are fairly simple to replace. After you have purchased the new sig/wiper control you will need to disconnect the negative battery cable, unplug the airbag fuse and start to remove the steering wheel and this will require you to first turn the wheel either way to remove the screws holding the airbag/center of the steering wheel in place, there is one on either side. Then you will need to remove the wheel itself. You will find a large nut under the airbag/center pienece of the wheel and you will need to remove it. Lock the wheel and using a socket and ratchet turn the nut counter clockwise to loosen it. I would recommend that you use a wax pencil or marker to mark both the wheel and the shaft so that the wheel is placed back in the same position as when you removed it. ( Make sure that your wheels are straight before removing the wheel) After you have done this, you can then access the turn signal indicator control/switch. After replacing, reverse the steps to install the wheel. Hope this helps

I have just changed the indicator/wiper arm (this unit is all in one comm 2000)and steering wheel,i have put the original air bag unit back on,and now the horn does not work and the air bag light is on and...

you have to be careful with the airbag connectors, they may look fitted but sometimes they dont go fully in - so check. on the steering wheel there is a black earth wire connected to a male connector, you need to cut the end off the wire and put a round earth terminal on it, then drill a small hole in the metal part of the steering wheel and fit a self tapping screw through the electrical connector you fitted and screw it into the hole you drilled. that is the usual cause for the horn not working e.g. bad earth connector on steering wheel. if you are not sure ask someone that knows about electrics
