The check engine light will set a code, to read this code you must have the system scanned with a special tool. This is not a wiring GREMLIN, trust me. As far as the gas gauge goes you will need to pull the fuel tank out and replace the gas gauge fuel level sending unit.
Remove the plastic cover held on by two 10mm hexbolts. Slide cover forward (dont try to lift up).
Below the Power Steering pump is a pulley. This is the belt tensioner. With a 12mm box-end wrench, loosen pulley bolt.
There is a 12mm bolt that extends from the pulley at a right angle. Turn this bolt counter-clockwise to loosen, and clockwise to tighten. Make sure you loosen the belt enough to easily slip it off the alternator pulley. Put on new belt and reverse disassembly process.
the pressure in the fuel tanks supposed to be there, your fuel pump,,,pumps 180lbs of pressure to the engine all the time.your engine requires it. so if you do not hear that pressure when you remove the gas cap,you do have a problem. but it does sound like you have a possible fuel injector or maybe 2 fuel injectors clogging.simple to give you solution.add lucas fuel injector cleaner to your fuel tank.a clogged fuel injector will seem like an engine misfire also, just because fuel bulds in the cylinder at times, then the spark plug fires and then BOOM the engine misses while in motion. sound familiar? the lucas costs $5.00 and will treat 25 gallons of fuel. try this, and please let me know if this helps!!
did you run out of fuel proir to the problem? if so, then you may have sucked up some debris from the bottom of the petrol tank, change the fuel filter as i had the same problem. the way the fuel filter is situated next to the fuel pump if any debris goes thru the line when you stop the debris will block the line.
