Does the ticking come from the top of the dashboard close to the defrost vents I'd say about the middle of the dashboard? If so it may be you vent door actuator(switches the door to either blow cold air or warm air) that has gone bad and needs to be replaced, the only thing is that it's located on top of the air distribution box and in order to get to it, you have to remove the dashboard which is really a huge undertaking. I've had the same happen before to me on a Lincoln Town car. All i did was unplug it at the time since it never stopped once I turned on the AC or heater.

Check for a low voltage in battery with a battery tester or a volt meter. If the battery is ok then it would be the solenoid on starter or the starter itself. Before working on starter system, remove the negative wire from battery first. Hope this will help you.

Ticking behind glovebox

Does it sound like the noise the turn signal makes? Does the noise change if you change the speed of the blower motor? Do all the function of the heater work (defrost, vent, floor, recirculate, fresh air, hot, cold)?

2004 chrysler 300M when I first start it up it has a ticking noise then it goes away what is it.

I have a 2004 Chrysler 300M that makes the ticking noise when first started . . . if you turn the heater control to completely off the noise stops . . .leave it off for about 3 to 5 minutes and then turn it on and it will be gone. . . my chrysler dealer repair service manager can't understand it and didn't believe me when I told him. They tried to tell me it was my motor mounts. My 18 year old daughter figured it out. go figure!!!
