The 2000 neon the belt goes from teh alternator to the Harmonic Balance pulley only. The adjuster is on the alternator and is a 10 mm. Turn counter clockwise to loosen and clockwise to tighten the belt. Here is a link to a site that has the diagrams for both the serpentine belt models and regular belt models as well as timing belt diagrams: http://www.2carpros.com/diagrams/dodge/neon/2000

2005 dodge neon the idler pulley went out. How do I change wthe idler pulley?

You will have to go to the tensioner pulley and put a wrench on that bolt and apply presure in the allowed direction and take the belt off...look first to see if there is a diagram of how the belt goes back on if there isn't write one down before you take the belt off...might be a good time to inspect the belt for cracks and replace as needed.

Squelling noise from aternator or belt tensioner

Good Evening, I would hope it is the belt or the alternator first because the belt tensioner is a bear to replace. I would recommend taking a better look at your belts first 80% of squeaking and squealing are from dirty, and old belts. And while you are changing it out you can spin each pulley by hand and see if there is one specifically making noise and go from there. Hope this helps.

We need to replace the serpentine belt on our 1996 dodge caravan but the diagram has been removed.

Get the replacement belt, and then note the pulleys that have smooth finish, and note the pulleys that have the grooved finish.

Just 'thread' the serpentine belt, one pulley after another alternating between the smooth and grooved until the last remaining pulley is the tensioner pulley.

Use the breaker bar to allow the pulley to accept the belt, and you're done.

How do you remove/replace the AC belt? There are a lot how to's for serpentine replacement but none that tell you how to remove the AC belt which has to come off first.

loosen the center bolt of the a/c idle pulley, then on top of pulley you will see the adjusting bolt, turn to loosen to remove belt, after new belt , tighten to where you have 1/2 play on elt then tighten center nut of pulley

I changed my alternator on my 95 neon now their is a high pitch squell coming from the belt area i tried losening the belt it didnt work, what could this be

Can be a host of things, mainly pulley bearings. The most common is the binder pulley. Having worked for Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep i can tell you that it's one of the main problems for all dodges, not just neons. If the pulleys are fine, maybe the belt is too loose and slips on the pullleys causing the noise. Also, it could be the new alternator itself being defective. I've seen plenty of alternators coming new straight out of the box and having busted bearings, or the internals hitting each other or the casing, preventing the alternator to spin freely. Other than that, it would be best to have the car checked out by a mechanic.

How to replace belt tension pulley for dodge neon 2002

The power steering and A/C belt is tensioned by a tensioner pulley. Mine went bad and was "screaming" I thought it was the power steering pump and I replaced it only to find that it wasn't the problem. I couldn't find any bolts and deemed it too much of a problem for me to replace at home. The shop had to drop the engine and transaxle assembly from the engine bay in order to get enough room to replace the pulley. The problem with many FWD cars is having enough room to work so if you have to replace it, the engine has to move because you only have about two inches of room otherwise.
