Unplugging the battery won't shut it down I don't think.

Get into your fuse box under the dash or in the engine compartment and pull the fuse for the fuel pump.

New ECM install

yes. you can disconnect either the neg or pos cable from the battery. failure to do so can result in a surge hitting the ECM...and frying it. as a rule of thumb...anytime you work on anything under the hood, except for oil canges...disconnect the battery. safety is first!!!

How to Turn off Service Traction Control and ESC messages

I had this problem with my 2007 HHR. I drove away with the service engine and the service traction light on. The car was stuttering through the gears. I took it back and they checked it. They disconnect some wires while they change the oil and one was loose. The service engine turned off but the service traction stayed on. We disconnected the battery for 3 minutes and it fixed the problem. Some of those other guys spent up to 300 dollars to fix the problem. Hope it works out for you.

To change the air Filter on an HHR:

      2. Disconnect the MAP sensor wiring.

      3. Disconnect the coupling to the engine intake.

      4. The filter box is help in place by two ball and socket type retainers located on the back corners. Grasp the box and lift up firmly to lift it free,

      5. Turn the assembly upside down. There are seven torx screws securing the cover of the filter. Remove them and replace the filter.
