I have what I consider a strange problem. I have blow back on my air intake from time to time. My car is a 1991 BMW 750iL 12 cylinder. The car has been in storage for about 5 years. Ran great before...

Valve stuck open from time to time
Lets keep in mind your talking a 1991
sitting for a few years or not.
Do a cylinder leak down test.
What was the reason the mechanic gave you ?

2001 Tacoma running rich but the scanner is reading a lean code

No, disconnecting the sensor and seeing no change would be a indication the maf was bad. Your computer takes information from your mass air flow sensor (maf), o2 sensor, cam position, and knock sensor to regulate the correct mixture. I would suspect a bad o2 sensor upstream. Try taking off the o2 sensor and seeing if there is black carbon on the base of the o2 sensor. If it has black carbon on the base it could be a bad o2 sensor. This problem could also be easily solved by hooking up a mechanics diagnostic computer to pin point the problem. Sometimes, you can clean the mass air flow with a special cleaner to help it generate a more accurate reading.

Hard as hell to get 325i 1991 started first thing in the morning. Mass Air Box good, new plugs and fuel filter. Any Ideas... Once it gets warmed up runs great ? Shannon

1991 BMW 325

This is a 19 year old 325 with presumably over 150000 miles on the clock so you can expect many problems to crop up if you keep the car.

1. Check the oxygen sensor which will die on these engines.

2. Check the engine coils which are also prone to failure and may be on their last legs.

If the car is frequently parked in the open in freezing conditions you will have trouble starting it because the electronics will play up.

I have a 1995 ford taurus engine stalls when idling and smells of gas when accelerating it bucks. Changed fuel filter, could it be mass air flow sensor?

Start with smaller problems and check the fuel pressure regulator, the mass air flow sensor for these vehicles is pretty pricy. Is the check engine light on? If so, head to your nearest auto zone and have them check for trouble codes. If the check engine light isn't on, its not likely your mass air flow sensor

My 2004 BMW 325 ci convertible is difficult to start.

If the fuel filter has been replaced, then maybe these are other reasons:

1. intake camshaft sensor (known to go bad on BMW E46s). ~$100 part.

2. fuel injectors (though I doubt they go bad that easily). ~$100/ piece. Your car has 6.

3. Ignition coils. ~$90 a piece. Your car has 6.

4. mass air flow sensor. Again, another expensive part. ~$300.
