One make sure the thermostat is installed with the spring inside the engine. Second make sure your fan is coming on when turning the AC on. The fan runs anytime the ac is turned on, even with engine not running if the key is on and the ac is on, the fan should be running. There is a secondary unit that turns the fan on when the temp reaches around 220 degrees and has nothing to do with the ac. This unit is located at the left front side of the block near the top and looks a lot like the temperature sender on the manifold further up. If your fan runs with the ac on make sure it sounds as if a 747 is taking off, some fans are worn out and barely run but by looking at it you think it is working. The fan motor is easy to replace and you can pick one up for around 28 dollars. You can leave the ac off and let the car run until it gets hot and see if the fan comes on, if not, replace the temperature sensor unit, not the temperature sending unit for the gage. If the fans work the way they are supposed to, then you need to have the cooling system flushed and cleaned by a professional cleaning company.

Hello tbrink. most likely your water pump is not running like it should resulting in it running hot. To test it do this: Get your car up to operating temperature, run the A/C. Once the temp is about 80-85 deg. Park it and let it sit idling with the A/c on for about 5 minutes, then turn the car off. let the car sit for about 5 minutes with the engine off. Then turn the ignition so that the temp gauge registers. You will probably see it spike to over 100 because the car has been sitting with a hot engine and no coolant flowing through to take away the heat. Note the temp, then start the engine. If the temp doesn't come down to normal within about a minute, then you probably have a bad pump. When functioning properly, as soon as the car is cranked the pump will move enough coolant through the head to drop the temp very quickly.

Qverheating how to check if waterpump is working 2002 vw jetta 1.8 manual trans.

it can be difficult to check a waterpump to see if it is pumping.first thing i would check is the belt driving the pump.if it is missing ,that is the cause.if it is driven off the timing belt and the engine runs , then the belt is not the problem.on some cars, you can start the vehicle and look at the coolant reservoir and see some movement of coolant(more when revving the engine). on some reservoirs , there is a smaller hose at the highest point on the reservoir. if your veh has this , sometimes you can see a flow inside the reservoir , when the engine is running. it's uncommon for a waterpump to stop pumping. if this is the case with your veh , your waterpump may have a plastic impeller on it and these designs do fail(not often , but they do) . i would look into the cooling fan operation and the thermostat operation . hopefully your veh did not overheat for long periods of time because if it did , there may be major damage to the engine .

The heat in my truck isn't very hot. the truck doesn't run hot, so i'm not sure if it could be the thermostat, or possibly the heater core. I have a 2000 Chevy Silverado Z71 with the 5.3 V8.

Try replacing the thermostat for a couple bucks and a twenty minute fix. You could also try unhooking the heater hoses to check if there is crud holding back the water, which you can also check the temperature of. Before you do anything, get a good manual like a Chilton or Haynes for your truck that will guide you through the troubleshooting and the repair if needed.

2002 Jetta 1.8T blew 40A cooling fan fuse - overheated, destroyed 4 way cooling hose connector - replaced all- now it still runs very hot, inside temp reads 190 (but temp is much higher), cooling fans run...

Then replace the thermostat, because if on lower hose not hot and on upper hose scalding hot = antifreeze flow blocked by the thermostat wich remains closed!!!

Replaced water pump and thermostat, still running alittle hot.

Is it actually running hot or is the thermostat gauge showing it is running hot? The reason I ask is because after spending money on a thermostat, fan clutch, and almost a radiator because I thought mine was running hot, I found out it was my sensor.
