Engine makes a whistle sound. Just sometimes. It is real loud at times like a coach's whistle blow then other times it is just whistle whir or click under the hood.

I have a '97 Ford Taurus, and my car is also making a whistling noise. I live in South Bend, IN, and lately it has been pretty cold and snowy. I'm wondering if this could have anything to do with it. I also noticed just tonight that it starts whistling right at 25 mph.

PS. Does the '97 actually have a bypass valve? And is the noise I'm hearing mean that it's working?

My wife has a 2005 Ford Taurus and it seems to have the same problem. It started whistling a couple months ago when the winter weather came (I live in Indy) so I guess it could have somthing to do with it (cold air making the sound??). I hope it is what you say it is (air bypass valve) and nothing more serious. The valve doesn't cost much (just about $50) and seems like an easy fix...

My 2011 BMW 328i Is making a loud whistle sound with rough idling. The whistle is loud like a tea kettle. It makes this noise after i drive it for 10 min or so. Can you please help?

Sounds like a vacuum leak has developed in the intake system. While the engine is whistling, using a spray bottle with water and on the mist setting, spray along the intake manifold area and vacuum hoses to locate a possible leak.

Engine is whistling loudly, and stops if i remove

I would have the converter checked for back pressure. if it is plugged it can cause excessive Engine pressure. if it is not plugged then you have excessive blow by or a malfunctioning PCV system it sounds like.

Surging and loud whistling noise

Sounds like a vacuum leak. Check all vacuum hoses on the intake, throttle body, etc. Sounds like one cracked or came off. Post back if you have any questions. Hope this helps.

Burning odor then whirring sound all within one weeks time

Could be belts or some fluid on the engine( power steering fluid) if your steering feels strange.
