Replaced battery. air valve clicks like mad but no turn over. Has smell of gas so fuel is getting there( and fuel system reciently fixed). What would you recomend as course of action?
Check odometer reading if over 100k since spark plugs replace them. checking connections is good but don't forget to check the cylinder pressure and for a crack in the head. If this all fails you may need to replace or recondition the engine.

You ran the car out gas and there's air in the system.. Not the Throttle Body..
Expel the air from the system..
1. Raise/Support your hood..
2. Turn your key to the ign position, (listen for the fuel pump to come on)..
3. Go to the fuel rail(s) and press the Schrader Valve, (looks like a tire air valve), until only fuel comes out.. (use safety gear, especially for eyes)
4. Rinse/Collect excess fuel before cranking (careful around electrical connections)
Did you check for spark? It sounds like you're not getting spark. Check for spark. If you are not getting spark then it sounds like you might have to replace the coil packs. Is it running a L4 engine? If its running a standard chevy L4 its probably the coil packs. Try to replace them check again for spark.
your fuel system may be air locked locate pressure relief valve on injector line turn on your key and use something to press the pin on the valve until fuel flows out
Hi Difficult without seeing it but it could be an air issue, if the air mass meter or sensor are not functioning then the engine wont be getting any air, you can normally smell fuel if that is the case but not always.
Could be the crank sensor, unlikely but a possibility finally the EGR valve "exhaust gas recycler" valve but you should see an engine light with this.

You may have a fuel leak within the fuel delivery system. Start your vehicle, after about 30 seconds shut it down and along the drivers side frame, get down and sniff for a raw (unburnt) gas smell. If you dont smell any fuel(gas) than you may need to replace your fuel pressure control valve. Thank you, and best of luck, Dana
The Rav 4s have 2 issues firstly the injectors can leak and this causes a strong fuel smell on start up,even cleaning wont fix it they need to be replaced,and secondly valve stem seals go in them meaning on cold start up it will blow smoke for a few seconds,these are the 2 most common issues as i work for Toyota and see plenty of them
if it's fuel injected,look on the fuel rail for a schrader valve--looks just like a valve stem on a tire but shorter.remove cap,again just like on a tire.turn key to on-push valve stem in as if to let air out if you get air,then gasoline,you have just bled the system.replace cap,start car.if you get no gas,remove gas tank cap,turn on key,listen for ""hum'' of fuel tank.no hum,check fuel pump.modern[plastic] fuel pumps will self destruct if run dry,even for a short time.
It should have an in line fuel filter, it will be located on the inside of the frame rail same side as the tank. Also it might have a hairline crack in the distributor cap witch lets moister get inside it and that will make it hard to start when its raining.
Hello, this may be a bad fuel filter becuase if you ran your fuel real low you may have sucked some corrosion or rust into your system. You may need to purge your system of air through a fuel pressure valve which is near your throttle body. Be careful however when pressing this valve with a screwdriver becuase fuel pressure can puncture your skin. I would replace your fuel filter, and fresh gas, bleed your fuel system, and possibly replace your spark plugs and this should help you. If this does not work you probaly have a bad filter on your fuel pump in your tank there is a like a little sock on the end of that fuel pump which can give inadequate amounts of fuel to your system becuase of it being clogged.
