1990 Nissan 300zx 2+2 non-turbo has an eradic or rough idle. RPM drops down low while I am at stop signs. Kind of goes up and down. When Im at about 900-1000rpms everything is smooth, but it drops lower and very rough. Feels like it wants to cut off. Also stuttering accelaration from a stop position.

SOURCE: Nissan 300zx no reverse or 4th gear.

Hi,
The first place I would look is the shift linkage for wear and a sloppy connection from wear.
adjustments may be made as a possible fix on the linkage rod.
Glad to be of assistance - Please rate the response - I can learn from your rating. Thank you

Old post but I would like to state that white smoke and white vapor are two different thing and blue smoke is sometimes so ligh it looks white but does act like heavy smoke. Evanescence of water vapor looks a lot like smoke but dissipates a lot quicker but in mass quantities can look like smoke (yes..I been dying to use that word ever since I heard of the band Evanescence lol). Transmission fluid can be sucked into the engine via a bad shift modulator both that has no bearing here (just FYI). In either case you would be fouling out spark plugs due to oil or water saturation and causing unburned fuel to be expelled.

SOURCE: 1990 300zx non turbo has miss on 2 cylinders

next step is a compression test. Sounds like a blown head gasket between 4 & 6 . You should remove all the spark plugs and test each cylinder @ wot (wide open throttle) and log your results. The compression should vary very little no more than 10-15% I think you will find 4 & 6 much below this. If This is the case removal of the head will be necessary to diagnose further repairs. Hope this helps, let me know! gl...dc

How to change flywheel on 1990 300zx non turbo?

pull the transmission. remove the torque converter (automatics) or clutch and pressure plate (standards), the bolts for the flywheel are under that. make sure you replace the flywheel with the proper one especially if it's a standard.

1990 nissan 300zx

I assume this is an automatic transmission. Is it a twin turbo or a non-turbo model? It sounds like you've lost fourth gear and are stuck in 3rd - those RPM would be about right. If you can provide more information, it will probably help in the diagnosis.
