The Service Engine Soon light is a reminder for oil changes, etc. It's usually tied into mileage from the odometer. Every vehicle has a procedure to follow to reset the light. I am not familliar with the sequence for Nissan but if you ask a dealer service department, they should be able to tell you what it is. Some vehicles have sensors for the oil condition and reset themselves after an oil change. As long as it's the "Service Engine Soon" indicator and not the "Check Engine" indicator, it is not major.
The service engine light will come on for a variety of reasons, and to say what caused it is just a wild guess over the internet. It could be as simple as the gas cap was loose. You need to have the code(s) retrieved to determine the reason. In some states your local Auto parts store will do that for you and some are free.

The service light means something is wrong with the car and it needs attention now. Get the codes checked and that will tell you what is wrong with it.
