My 96 jeep grand cherokee ltd ran fine until this morning. Went to leave for work, came to a stop sign, hit the brakes and it died. Found that the automatic shutdown fuse was blown and replaced it. Started fine but got to the stopsign again and it died. Have replaced the fuse again but as soon as i try to start the car it starts for just a second and dies, blowing the ASD fuse again. Any idea what might be causing this?
Yes I had the same problem. The wires that plug into the sensor at the catatytic converter were rubbing against the drive shaft untill they finally wore through causing the short against drive shaft. repaired wires and it fixed everything
i checked the wires for the sensor as you guys suggested, and sure enough, that was the problem with my jeep not wanting to start. The wire wrapped around the front driveshaft and rubbed itself bare, causeing it to short out against the body, thus blowing the 20 amp fusein the power management box under the hood, too bad i didn't read this sooner, before i spent 40 dollars in new parts for TPS and new coil... but i am happy once again ready for more fun miles ahead,my old girl has 265k in miles and still runs as cherry as the day i bought her in 1996...Thanks from Plainfield Illinois... We have also had this problem this week over the last few days, on the passenger side of transmission we found the neutral safety switch just before the catalytic converter wiring harness and wires were melted and frayed so check there also
Wire that runs down the right side of engine as you look at it from the front of the hood. The wires are covered in conduit, but the wire is exposed to the side of the manifold and shorts out the fuse each time it touches the metal.
Check for any wires that may be grounding out causing the fuse to blow...

I have a 1996 that is doing the same thing...Dont have a clue where to start looking!
start at the fuse box, see if you have a blown 20 amp fuse in the number 20 position spot, if blown, look under the body of your jeep for a bare wire most likely connectedto the oxygen sensor goinginto your cat converter
I have 93 plymouth laser rs awd turbo n its not working correctly
I cinda hit the bat with my ratchet n it sparked out
Now I popped the fuse that is on the set of fuses on the positive post of the bat n I replaced it
At idle the car runs fine but wen I start to move the car just dies out with no power so I have to keep getting jumped
Altinator is working fine
Wat would cause the car to just die
