I just saw your newer post..or the original post with more information available.

Your K1500 has the ignition switch positioned on the steering column. The switch is control via a linkage rod that is actuated from the key cylinder.(which may have failed.) But I suspect your problems may be in the switch itself.

See the procedure here at Just Answer Chevy to remove and install a new switch:
Fix Your Chevy With Your Own Hand

PS: After removing the actuator rod see if the lock cylinder rotates freely...if it does the switch is the source of your problem.

SOURCE: no power to ignition 96 camero dl

Check the wires to the distributer or to the modules could be poor or no conection. If you can turn the car over but no spark it's probably something to do with ignition, distributer, module, or wiring to the ignition.

SOURCE: key is stuck in the ignition and won't come out

It really sounds per your description that the shift link is not adjusted properly.
Raise the vehicle, leave the transmission in park, loosen the linkage nut at the transmission and the link should move and relax. Retighten the nut and you should be good to go. Start there and see how it goes and we can go from there if needed.

SOURCE: can't remove key from ignition. battery is dead

If the battery is dead, the ignition keys will not release from the ignition. If there is no signal from the transmission shifter that it's in park since the battery is dead, then the ignition lock will not release the keys.  After charging the battery or jumping the blazer to start it and the key's still will not release, try this.
There is a "plunger" as part if the ignition. Under the steering wheel there is a small removable cap that you can take off and put a small screw driver up into and press the plunger in and it will release the key. Good luck and hope this helps, Keep me posted be glad to help.

SOURCE: key is stuck in the ignition

There is a switch that is supposed to release so you can pull the key out. Obviously something has caused the release mechanism not to function. Some vehicles have a manual release. See if here is a small square cover somewhere near the ignition switch either above it or below it (may be near shifter). If there is one take something and remover the cover like a small screwdriver. Then take a small enough object to insert into the hole under the cover and then try to pull out the key. If that's not an option, you could remove the ignition fuse to disable the vehicle for the night. Get your owners manual and open it to the index. Look for the fuses section. In that section it will tell you what different fuses do and where they are located on you vehicle. Just take out the fuse that says "Ignition" and remember where you took it out of. Then try to start the car. If it won't start at least no one can steal it . If you can't find the ignition fuse look for one that says "power" and try that one

Key turns to "start" position. Nothing happens, key doesn't spring back to "run".

Sounds like the link between the lock cylinder and the switch is broke.

OK I have 93 VW Eurovan, 5 cylinder 2.5, the problem I have is, I can't start the car, when I do short cut on starter it start no problem but not with the key, then I find out my reverse light is on in...

Find the neutral safety switch and adjust it to the proper mark and where the backup lights only come on when shifter is in R and the engine will then start in park or neutral. As it is now, if you put the shifter in the next position from where it is now and trans is now in park but shifter says it's in R because the backup lights are on, placing it in the next position from where it is NOW will be a cranking position for crank with key. This is not advisable but a thought for testing but don't let it start.

Do you mean start the car in drive? if so that problem is inhibitor switch. Other shift problems can be caused by TPS (throttle posistion sensor) if applicable

My key doesn't turn in the ignition, its automatic and the shifter and wheel wont move either. Everything is locked how do I unlock it? help pls?

If turning the steering wheel to the left or right doesn't allow the key to turn, it sounds like your tumblers in the lock cylinder have failed. Unfortunately, there is no way to know when this is going to happen, but eventually, it happens. Not a real expensive fix. Replace the ignition/lock cylinder.

Cannot turn key in ignition to start car

Hi nicoleelgert, i suspect the steering lock is giving you the problem, all you need to do is turn the steering wheel left and right ( jiggle ) while turning the key in the ignition, it won't move much because it's locked but it will be enough to release the steering lock and allow you to turn key.. make sure you have the shifter in Park position too. Good luck . OK

93 chevy pickup won't start unless in neutral

Put the trans in nuetral and see if it starts normal with key. If not, then the ignition swith is suspect. The actual switch is mounted on top of the steering column on the lower end. It is actuated by a rod. the key has no electrical. or your trans linkage needs adjusting. Good luck, Ned-
