Hi ,
This problem is extremly common. Let me explain something.....
Chances of the cable being broken are very slim. The cable has around 1200 lbs of tensile strength, wheras you can only exert about 30-50 lbs force while pulling the handle inside the vehicle. You can however verify the cable is still attatched by pulling on the handle and feeling behind it with a pair of needle nose pliers to grasp the cable. An extra twist down pull motion at that time can also be achieved to make the cable pull a slight bit beyond its intended travel path. If it pulls very far, it could indeed be detached from the hood latch, but this is highly unlikely. Usually the hood pin gets stuck in the lock due to the fact that people do not lubricate the locks on their car (hood, doors, trunk, rear hatch, etc.). Periodically all these locks , door pins and recievers should be lubricated with white lithium grease and the lube worked in by hand to prevent sticky lock mechanisms. (a squirt of WD-40 into your door locks as well will make them work smoother)
After you have verified your cable is indeed attatched still, push down sharply on the hood and release. This will either reset the lock mechanism or release the hood pin. Try that a couple times, pulling the inside release in between times until your hood pops open. Once open, lubricate the lock in all moving areas and manually work the lock and release a few times to work the grease into the jointed parts to prevent this from occuring again. Do this for all the locks on your vehicle and especially around the pins in the door hinges to reduce wear and insure trouble free lock mechanisms.

How do I open the hood on my 67 Cougar Classic car

The hood release on a 67 cougar is in the center under the grill. Start from the undercarriage, and run your hand up the middle until you feel the hood latch, then just pull it forward

BROKE CABLE TO OPEN BONNET ON MY 2000 GOL GTI

You'll have to get your hand in there around the hood latch, and lever the latch over towards the driver's side. The lever that the cable hooks to.
Sometimes you have to pull the grill off to get your hand in there. And sometimes you can lay under the car and reach your arm up to get to the latch. You may have to move something aside to get your hand up there. Use a screwdriver or something to push the lever over to open the hood.
Good luck.

Hood release inside my 2000 ford focus popped to release but I can not open the hood of the car? what should I do?

Might just be stuck. Have someone pull the release as you FIRMLY pound on the front of the hood in the middle with your fist (NOT A HAMMER ! ! ! !).

If that works and it opens, get some WD40 and spray the latch and cable, lever, etc... and then work the release lever before closing it again. If the cable has broken....... it is very difficult to release without some automotive knowledge. I'm betting it is just stuck...

Good Luck.

Hood latch cable broken on 2001 cougar, unable to relese hood

first, try smacking the hood at one of the front corners while someone else pulls the release handle. or even after you've pulled on it. if that works, once open, adjust and lubricate the hood latch assembly. if it still won't open, and it's the cable and not the latch you'll have to replace it anyway, so instead of removing the grill, cut the cable behind the pull lever under the dash where you can reach it. then skin the outer cable insulation away from the actual steel cable exposing an inch or two of it. then holding the insulation and plastic housing with pliers, grab the steel cable itself with pliers and pull it to open the hood. then replace the cable. the further you can reach up under the panel the better your chances of getting past the broken part of the cable and avoid removing the grill. you might also be able to gain access from up under the car if you're lucky.

2000 cougar hood cable has broken at the hood, how can I open it

You may be able to get underneath the front bumper enough to where you can see the latch. If you can see the latch you may be able to pull on the linkages enough to pop the hood. I used a coathanger on my old car to pull the wire that ran from the latch itself to the actuator where the wire from inside the cabin ran. I hope this helped. answer back if you need clarification.
