The Check engine soon light came on last night. the code is a "manufacturers code" # 14191. What does this code mean ? Check Engine Soon Light Came on and stayed on.

    The code that you have listed is not a valid code# all codes for vehicles built after 1995 only contian 4 digits (P0xxx, P1xxx).

    If you can get me the code I will do what i can to help you.

    I lightly washed the engine being careful not to wet the top of the motor, did blast off the bottom ov the engine and trans though due to heavy grease, went to start it and it will not start, I waited over night with a large fan on it but it will still not start. what should I check? I have codes of p0 456, 685 & 688

The check engine light comes on to tell you there is a problem with engine management (computer controls). It has nothing to do with vehicle maintenance. Have the computer scanned for trouble codes. If the light is on there will be codes. If it is flashing it means the problem is a little more urgent and the catalytic converter could be damaged as a result of the current problem. Typically flashing check engine lights indicate there is a cylinder misfire.

should have two lights check engine and service engine soon.check engine means there is a malfunction.service soon is reprogrammable,when you change you oil. check you owners manual for reset.

I have a 2003 chevy cavalier and last night as i was driving home a little yellow light that looked like a small engine came on ..it was at the bottom right hand corner of the dashborad
it can mean many things. that light means that something is not right with your engine. i can describe you many reasons why that light is on.

normaly if you get that light you should go to your mechanicien. if your car runs well, it might just be a dump thing like changing the oil, or changing the engine band, or changing the engine ingniters and so on...

I'm a total amateur and that's why I had to ask the source.. worked in my case as advised by dealer's service center advisor;

- put the key into the ignition and turn all the way as if you're going to start the engine, however do not start

- hit breaks tree times within 5 sec

very simple..no codes..battery disconnect etc.

It me Bear001 I believe I found your code Its a, EGR valve Lift insufficiant Detedcted. So Maybe you can take it out and just clean it with a good cleaner and the light should be reset again like we talked about,
I sure hope that help you out and if not let me know I do have an new computer with all the goodies now LOL
