Get a can of penetrating lubricant (not WD-40, it evaporates) and keep it in your car for the next instance of stubbornness.
You will need a helper with you to try this.
Have someone repeatedly operate the door locks while you press rhythmically on the hatch near the latch with the heel of your hand.
This will normally open a stuck latch.
Spray the latch mechanism in the hatch liberally with lubricant and the mating part too.
Close the hatch and have your helper try it again.
If this hasn't helped, the solenoid may be gummy or a connector not contacting cleanly anymore.
This can also be overcome with careful adjustment of the movable latch part to allow easier closing and better opening behavior.
Due to the fact that this part can be adjusted, it can also move over time until your problem occurs.
