These have transfer case problems, But before you go that route,, have the CV joint in the drive shaft checked, also,, change the transfer case fluid , if its a very load popping noise have the outer bearings checked.

Does a 2002 taurus have wheel barrings

Possibilities are:
  1. Bad wheel bearing
  2. Bad tie rod
  3. Bad ball joint
  4. Bad strut
  5. Loose lug nuts
Most cases it's a wheel bearing but since you're getting a loud noise too, it could very well be a bad ball joint or tie rod end.

07 mountaineer awd front end noise more from driver side. Sounds like the drivetrain. What should I look for.

Check the front drive shaft u-joint, and front cv shafts on the front axle, may be worn and need to be replaced. These parts will make a clicking or popping noise may sound like a thud sound.

2002 trailblazer making loud humming noise when driving

When you turn right - you're taking weight off the right wheel.
If the noise dissipates - the passenger side wheel bearing is most likely to blame.
