When traveling at a constant speed my rpm's will jump from 1800 to 3000 for about 5 seconds then go back to 1800 but there is no acceleration of speed. I am experiencing this alot more now and it seems to happen only when i've been driving continuously for 30 mins or more. Do you know what could be the problem I have taken it in to hyundai and they just did an update on my transmission but it hasn't helped.Also 2 weeks ago I had all spark plugs and wires changed due to arcing if this helps. Please let me know.Thanks K.Bruce

I had same problem 2005 Santa Fe 2.4 L drives ok when cold, when it warms up during city driving the engine sputters, little power, then tach jumps from 1K to 2.5K, seems to work better if the RPM's are high. It's a standard and I know the RPM's can't jump that much. I found out that the ignition coil determines the RPM's so I bought a new coil, and pulled over when I had the problem, quick changed the oldest looking coil and drove again. It worked fine. If it would have kept sputtering, I would have changed the other coil to see if it was that one. It works fine now, the ignition coil seemed to work until it got too hot and then acted up.

Sounds like transmission is either loseing lock up or shifting out of high gear, need to check tps and tranny for codes

700 is a generic transmission code. It went to limp mode, that's why it drives like it does. Have the codes read with a newer /better code reader or a scanner. Find out what other codes are in there.

1998 lexus gs300 runs at 2800 rpm at 65 mph

At a steady 65 mph, the torque converter clutch (TCC) is engaged. When you accelerate, the ECU disengages the TCC to gain extra torque for acceleration and then re-engages TCC when speed is steady. Its kind of like having an extra gear.

RPM high n everytime i shift then car speed keeps on going fast n i dont even step onto the accelerator so i can add more speed of stay on a constant speed

You have to change your clutch kit. I just had this issue and after changing it it runs smooth again.
Just to confirm, you shift gear up, your engine roars (goes up to 4000 or more RPM) but doesn't gain speed until few seconds later after the RPM is back to normal.
If so that's the clutch plate causing the issue.

as there is a vast difference between new and second hand new to you
Next question is it automatic transmission or CV transmission
With automatic as you increase rpm the car will accelerate and you will feel ratio changes up to the point where road speed = engine rpm for that throttle setting
With a CV transmission ( constant velocity transmission ) there is a torque converter but that is where the automatic action ends
In the transmission there are 2 pulleys with a big belt that can vary the ratios by pulling the flanges together on one and expanding on the other
This gives an infinite number of ratios and is designed to keep the best ratio selection for the torque band of the engine
SO how does it affect your driving
If you floor the pedal on take off, the engine will red line and stay there until road speed builds up
OR you ease back on the pedal and the pulleys start to change the ratios to suit the power band
How to drive it
when you want to take of push the pedal down to around 2500 rpm the car will take of normally
as the road speed increases , ease off the pedal and it will keep altering ratios until the correct road speed is reached for the rpm on the dial
The only catch that you will have to get used to is when going to pass at speed , you tend to floor the pedal to get past quickly but it will not down change ratios until you ease of the pedal and then the car will speed up to the rpm that you are holding it at
IT is different in driving and you will have to learn to drive to rpm not road speed and then it will behave normally ( set the rpm by the pedal and the transmission will catch up and to make it catch up , ease of the pedal in stages , just like a conventional automatic

I would start by making sure the Trans Fluid level is correct. If the level is good, it sounds like your internal pressures are leaking down, and that is why it slips out of gear. Which means you have internal trans issue which would require the trans to be most likely removed and repaired.

Obd2 system rediness status won't clear so I can run the smog test due to replacing the battery.

Engine coolant temperature: Not set.
Time required: 16 minutes or more.
Drive cycle pattern: One trip monitor (from start to ignition switch to "LOCK" (OFF) position). Will be completed while traveling with the following drive cycle pattern.
Test Procedure
Engine: start.
Accelerate until the vehicle speed is 89 km/h (55 mph) or more.
Travel for 300 seconds or more while keeping the vehicle speed at 89 km/h (55 mph) or more.
Decelerate until the vehicle speed is within 80 km/h (50 mph) or less.
While traveling at 56 - 80 km/h (35 - 50 mph) for 10 minutes or more, fully close the throttle at least once in 2 minutes and decelerate for 10 seconds or more.
Do not repeat deceleration too often.
Vehicle speed may go below 56 km/h (35 mph) after the deceleration.
Stopping and braking are permitted. (If stopped or drive at 56 km/h (35 mph) or less for more than 5 minutes the monitoring may be stopped. In this case please restart monitoring from the beginning.)
After completing the above deceleration, bring the vehicle speed back to 56 - 80 km/h (35 - 50 mph) and keep it in the range until starting the deceleration again.
Repeat the above deceleration at least 5 times.
Return the vehicle to the shop, then turn the ignition switch to "LOCK" (OFF) position

PROCEDURE 4
HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR MONITOR

Inspection Conditions
Engine coolant temperature: 100°C (212°F) or more.
Atmospheric temperature: -10°C - 60°C (14 - 140°F) or more.
Condition of A/T: Selector lever D range.
Time required: 16 minutes or more.
Drive cycle pattern: One trip monitor (from start to ignition switch to "LOCK" (OFF) position). Will be completed while traveling with the following drive cycle pattern.
Test Procedure
Engine: start.
Accelerate until the vehicle speed is 56 - 80 km/h (35 - 50 mph).
While keeping the accelerator pedal opening degree constant, keep the vehicle speed at 56 - 80 km/h (35 - 50 mph) and travel for 16 minutes or more.
Stopping and braking during this operation are permitted. Keep the accelerator opening degree constant for 1 minute or more after each acceleration.

Test Procedure
Engine: start.
Accelerate until the vehicle speed is 56 - 80 km/h (35 - 50 mph).
While traveling 16 minutes or more at 56 - 80 km/h (35 - 50 mph) with engine speed 2,000 r/min or above, fully close the throttle at decelerate for 5 seconds or more until the engine speed reaches 1,000 r/min or under.
Do not repeat deceleration too often.
Stopping and braking are permitted (Rapid deceleration and sharp steering are not permitted).
After completing the deceleration, bring the vehicle speed back to 56 - 80 km/h (35 - 50 mph) and keep it in the range until starting the deceleration again.
Repeat the above deceleration at least 8 times by fully closing the throttle valve.
Return the vehicle to the shop, then turn the ignition switch to "LOCK" (OFF) position

change tranny fluid with mercon v also can add friction modifier (ford part# m-19546-a) and be sure to drain torque converter as well. should fix ya
