My 2002 saturn L100 seems to have a lack of power, not all the time though. I had it tuned up about 4 months ago, the tune up didnt help the problem. Bought a new battery, that didnt help either. Alternator is tested and good. Im not sure what the problem is. There are 170,000 km on it currently.

I'd probably do a compression test on this vehicle. 2.2L engine, my info says 185--225 psi. 100 psi min.
The lowest cylinder reading should be within 70% of the highest reading. If the compression is poor, I'm not saying it won't run, probably will, but, it won't run like new vehicle. There could be other issues?

SOURCE: tune-up ?

Hi Irwin, Your car should only need new sparkplugs. Be certain they are gapped propperly! Other than that, check the air filter. If you can't see light through it, replace. Be sure to go around, not just check in one spot. Check the brake fluid, if down top up and get a shop to check the brake pads. As the pads wear, the fluid level drops to compensate. Check the coolant level, belts, an hoses! Wash an wax! Done! Frankster016

SOURCE: how to preform a tune-up on my 2009 Saturn Vue

It has a maintenance recomendation from the manufacturer for replacement of the spark-plugs at 100,000 miles. You don't list mileage or V6 or L4 cylinder. Make sure engine is cold because the cylinder heads are aluminum and can be damaged if plugs are removed hot or overtightened upon reassembly. Remove spark-plug wires and replace spark-plugs. Sometimes the wires break when you remove them and will require replacement. If you coat the inside of the wires where they connect with the plugs with dielectric grease it will help prevent the wires from breaking upon future disassembly.

SOURCE: 2002 saturn l100 A/C wont work

ok ac system has a pressure switch that stops the compressor when freon is too low. they actually say it is ok for mobile a/c systems to lose a half pound a year. most a/c systems run on under 2 pounds of freon. so after 3 or 4 years some systems will just quit working. you are at 8 to 9 years so i would recommend you find an independant shop that will top off your a/c and see if it works again. this should not cost more that 50 to 75 bucks. If you were here that is what i would charge. I am in columbus ohio just to let you know. hope this helps and thanks for using fixya

Lacks power

sounds like wrong firing order of the cylinders. If you have the 4 cylinder engine the firing order is 1-3-4-2. Number 1 is the end of the engine the belts are on

Where is the fuel relay switch on a 2002 saturn L series

You have a fuse / relay box under your hood. My 2002 L100 special edition, 4 cylinder, is located near the battery. You have a relay and a fuse in series. A fuel pump operations check, section 4-3 of the Haynes Saturn L-series 2000 to 2004 manual, you can hear a soft whirring sound for 1 to 2 seconds when you turn the ignition to the ON position. I can confirm mine makes this sound when I do this. Good luck with the fix.

Note, I had a crack in my fuel pump, but I took it to an ex-Saturn dealer 4 or 5 years ago because I did not want to mess with it at the time. They had the part and fixed it in 4 hours, but it also cost me $1000 to replace the fuel pump and install a new fuel filter.

I need to relpace a fuel pump on my Saturn L100, where is it ?

The fuel pump is in the top of the fuel tank. The part if bought at an auto parts store is a little over $300. I had mine replaced about a year ago. The fuel tank needs to be lowered or dropped for replacing the fuel pump. I had fuel leaking because of a crack in the fuel pump assembly. I did not think I had the tools or the time to safely replace this, so I took it to what used to be a Saturn dealer (they still had Saturn mechanics). They took 4 hours to replace it and charged me $1000.

2002 subaru forester. Seems to be lacking in power. Gas mileage is at 22 instead of 26-27. Check engine light does not comes on.

If you have not performed a "tune-up" service on your vehicle recently I would strongly recommend replacing your spark plugs, air filter, fuel filter, and an oil and filter change at the minimum. Usually if there is an actual problem with the engine the ECU will pick up on it and turn on the check engine light. That's why I am only recommending the tune up, this is the cheapest way to rule out those issues, and your car will love for it. I hope this info helps...(subytech1)...

Catalytic Converters keep going on on 2002 Hyundai Santa Fe (twice within 15 months) - reason? Dealer said I should have had then do a tune-up (had one done 5 months ago by mechanic) - engine is knocking,...

There are two primary reasons for cat failure; rich running or an ignition miss. Lack of maintenance is usually the cause, you should really be changing your spark plugs about every 40,000 miles even though they're platinum and the dealer recommendation is probably over 100,000. This is one of the worst mistakes manufacturers made in the last ten years, trying to market maintenance free vehicles. Spark plugs degrade and cause more unburnt gases to be released into the cat where it causes damage.
The other big one is the O2 sensor, these also degrade over time and should be replaced if they're signal starts to degrade. Only an experienced tech with a scope can measure this though. It's a good idea just to replace your primary O2's every 100.000 miles. Another cause could be an engine that burns oil, if excessive amounts enter the cat it will degrade rapidly.
Hope this helps.
