I have a 2001 Olds Alero. The transmission was working fine and I sat it on a hill for quite a while and now it does not shift properly. Sometimes it will not shift, however when it does it will work fine until I shut it off. Then the problems starts all over again. The fluid level is fine.

Unfortunately you now probably have a sticking solenoid in the transmission, but you also may have an oil pump problem in the transmission. These are expensive repairs, so I would try having the transmission oil replaced and perhaps adding an additive recommended for this.

SOURCE: Tranny Fluid Dipstick Location on a 02' Olds ALero...

Your Alero does not have a transmission dip stick. You do not need to check it unless it starts leaking.

SOURCE: where do i put the transmission fluid in my alero 2001?

The only way to check the level is to get under the vehicle and loosen a bolt attached to the transmission. You fill the transmission until fluit comes out the bolt hole The only way to put transmission fliud in is on the drivers side of the engine. There is a lid that screws off that you put the fluid into. It is not visible and is a pain to get to. It is tucked in under other parts of the engine. You have to use a flexible funnel. I strongly suggest that if you are going to perform this yourself, you spend the $25.00 and buy the book on the vehicle from a local parts store.

2001 Olds Alero suddenly quits sending heat then sometimes it does and sometimes it overheats. Is this a water pump or a thermostat. Help. Mallory M

Check the cooolant level, sound like theres a leak somewhere, water pump, hoses, t-stat bad, rad cracked, heater core leaking, bad rad cap, cooling fans not working, you need to get it looked at really soon, before you get it to hot and blow a head gasket.

Is there a certain type of transmission fluid that I should use for my 2001 Olds Alero?

yes you use DEXRON VI or any other brand fluid meeting the same GM STANDARDS as DEXRON VI, Pennsoil makes a less expensive ATF that fills the bill.

99 olds alero; fuel pump and inst. panel isn't getting power

fuel shutoff switch is actually a fuel pump relay in the relay box under the hood, but it is not unusual for a fuel pump to work on and off before it finally dies. but it is a good idea to check the relay first.

try swapping it with the horn relay (if the horn works). pay attention to the direction the relay is in. on GM's, it's possible to put them in backward or even miss the connectors completely.

you also want to check for proper power and ground in the relay socket.

The aircondition doesn't work in my 2001 olds. alero, it sat for 1 year, what would that do to the air

You probably have a leak in the A/C system.
Have the A/C system recharged with coolant gas and they will most probably get it checked for leaks for you (because they have to.... )
Hope this helps, Good Luck...

2001 Olds Alero will act **** when switching gears

My car does the same thing. I wondered that myself, I don't think that's what it is though, I don't think you have an issue with the transmission. Your car has TWO check engine lights, and with the Alero--if there is an issue with the transmission one of the lights will come on. I am not 100% positive of this, but I had a 1999 Bravada (Olds) and it did do that when I had a tranny issue.

I notice when I drive my 2001 Alero my right leg gets SORE from pushing the pedal so hard. I think it is age, not the transmission.

READ YOUR SERVICE MANUALS. I don't get why people ignore them, honestly they have a wealth of information in them...could have saved a lot of people lots of money when people started claiming their car wouldn't start when it was a security feature that is listed in the manual that came with the book.
