You do need to provide more information-does the engine crank? have you checked it to see if it is getting spark? is it getting fuel? you can check the check engine light codes by bridging terminals on your OBDI connector and 'reading' the number of flashes on your check engine light-please provide more detailed information, and i am certain we can help you.

Hello
The Check Engine should come on and go off when the key is turned to on, then it should go off after start up and stay off unless the engine control computer senses a problem, then the light is turned back on. In the case of a no start you will need to check a few things, first check the system computer for fault codes, you can do this by reading and following the instructions at the website link below.
http://www.extreme-check-engine-light-codes.com/GM%20OBD1%20Decoder.htm

Start here, also check to see if you are getting fuel to the engine, buy a can of Starting fluid and spray it inot the air intake of the engine, if it starts and quickly dies out then you have no fuel delivery.

    Hello

It would have been nice if you had mentioned all the facts, which you didn't and that means I wasted your time and mine with my comments. When the key is held in the crank position do you have battery + to the purple wire at the starter solenoid?

Engine that wont start might fall to a lot of contributing factors e.g fel distribution, dead battery, alarm problem. Could yo give me more information on what is happening when you turn key to start position? Are you hearing click sound, engine cranks etc... Here's a link/guide for you to detect and resolve common issue for engine NOT STARTING.

Sorry for the late reply. Sounds like there is a problem with the ignition system. To test it, turn on your headlights then have someone infront look at the headlights while you star the engine. The headlight should go DIM. If nothing happens with the headlight then you need to check the ignition system.

Stop throwing parts at it.
Is it a 5.7 eight cylinder ? I'm not aware of a 1990 model with a 4.7 engine.
If the check engine light is on you should check the computer for trouble codes next.
It could be a faulty injector, or fuel pressure regulator, or any number of things.

GMC Sierra Won't Start. Battery Good. Tried Jump

If you know the batter is good.

Check the Starter to see it is getting power.

Get a test light [6.00] and see if the starter will light up the test light.
If not - then you may need a new starter. From the sounds of it you might want to take it to a professional as this can be a very labor intense job because the starter has to come out the bottom.

Check to see if you have spark. A spark tester for this is the best way.
Normally no starts are lack of spark, or fuel. Do this to cut the problem in half.
If it is spark, I would try a ignition module.
