The cruise control on 2005 Sentra quit working...........while driving. When I put the Cruise on the "cruise light illuminates" and the "set light flashs".....but the cruise does not work. Is there a fuse to check (I could not find one marked "cruise control")........if so where is it? If it isn't a fuse what else could it be?

The cruise control system on this vehicle uses mechanical, electrical and vacuum operated components to maintain vehicle speeds over 25 MPH. The cruise control unit receives command signals from the cruise control main switch and the set/resume switch. It also receives operating signals form the brake light switch, ignition coil, speed sensor, clutch switch (manual transmission) or shift position switch (automatic transmission). If the main switch's indicator light illuminates when turned on, it's likely working properly. Likewise, if the cruise control light on the instrument cluster illuminates when the set/resume switch is pressed, it is likely OK. At this point the problem would likely be mechanical or vacuum-related rather than electrical and the actuator/servo would be the prime suspect. On the other hand if the cluster indicator light is not illuminating, it could be an electrical issue such as the set switch not registering or one of the safety switches (brake switch, clutch switch or shift position switch) registering inappropriately which effectively cancels the cruise request. is the Check Engine Light on? many newer cars will illuminate several lights and disable systems if the ECU records a DTC.

I would check the turn signal switch. The cruise and turn signal are on the same switch. The brake lights go through the switch before going to the brake lights. And the turn signals don't work with the ignition off.

open the hood and check to see that the throttle cables are not out of place, if everything looks ok then unhook the cruise control cable from the throttle body (black plastic end) by pulling up on the cable end. this will disable your cruise control from making your car accelerate at unwanted times. sounds like there may be a problem with the cruise control servo.

Check that the cruise control module fuses are not blown in the fuse panel. Also make sure your stop lights are working; cruise controls are designed to disengage when the brakes are applied, and one method of sensing that is to monitor brake light current.


then reset your four wheel drive again

Check that your brake lights are staying off. Brake light switch will put your cruise control into coast mode.
