The car stalls out on a regular basis but before it does the low coolant and service engine lights come on. We have sprayed the carborator and put fuel cleaner in the tank however this will only work for a few minuetes then it will die again any ideas on what the problem may be?
I'm not sure why you have a carborator on 89 regal, BUT if you haven't try replacing the spark plugs and wires you might want to try that if you have factory wire (the carbon composite wires it comes with are terrible). But that might help. If not maybe check and see if your fuel pump is working properly (ex. weak pump, bad fuel line, ect...)

The 1989 2.8 should be fuel injected using 6 fuel injectors. If fuel is leaking on the intake manifold check the injector O rings at the fuel rail. Stalling problem could be a number of things. Do an throttle body cleaning and see if that helps.
It`s a 2000 buick regal ls. make sure when it gets hot eh fans are running. There is a coolant sensor just below the top radiator hose ON THE ENGINE. This sensor tells the fans when to go on when the engine gets hot and also serves as a low coolant sensor. unplug the sensor and replace it. use a open end or box wrench. if your quick you can replace it and only loose a few ounces of coolant. This problem
is commonly caused by a dirty automatic idle speed control valve and
throttle valve. Buy a can of throttle valve cleaner (do not use
carburetor spray cleaner!) from NAPA or Carquest (made by CRC
chemicals) and spray it into the air intake while the engine is
running, use up about 1/2 the can, engine will try to stall hold the
speed up, shut it down and let it soak for 30 minutes, restart and
blow out the remaining fluid, shut it down and disconnect the
negative battery cable for 5 Min's to reset the base idle control
Wipe any coolant off your engine make sure there is coolant in the car. Run engine for a bit. shut off engine and look for wet spot. Before this see if there are any cracks in rubber hoses or they are loose. It could be a thermostat gasket or warped housing to. Its hard to say without seeing it.
Gm says a 3800 engine should last ove 400,000 miles with normal service. This engine for 97 will probably need a new plastic intake manifold one day. They will leak coolant into the combustion chamber and some un-educated mechanics will tell you that it needs head gaskets as they don't have a head gasket problem. The oil pan may leak on this car too, replace it with a fel-pro perma dry gasket and it will stop it. Mine has 297,000+ miles on it.
This is a COMMON Problem that GM had with the Level Sensor Curciut, And they Never Correctly Addressed it. I Have on ocations Replaced the Sensor and that Corrected the Problem, BUT Other times the Light STAYS ON No matter What, I have tracked the Wires and all I Have Ever Found was the Plug Being FAULTY. So if A NEW Coolant LEVEL SENSOR Does NOT Turn off the Light, try Replacing the PLUG Itself.
