Thanks Mike, but I read this thread and it says the tensioner is in the front center of the engine. On my 97 es300 the belts and pulley's on on the side. I also cannot find one with a 15mm hex head. I have looked high and low at the engine and on the web to locate a diagram as none to be found.

    Still Lost....

How to change the alternator - compressor belt on a 2003 Lexus ES300

NO engine told of 7, and is an engine question wow hard. that.

the service manual covers that.
https://eautorepair.net/Marketing/Default.asp
did the belt fall off, not told , the story.

all have tensioner that must be retracked
2 kinds, fixed bolt kind
or, the spring loaded kind and to be frank we make sure is kind is not bad first. if there at 19 years old.
called the main front drive belt system. (not cams)
I am not answering for all 7 sorry.
all we do is look at it. see what tensioner is there,
if spring type we retract it with a beaker bar socket drive. per the manual told in services manuals
if not spring type out comes my tension tool and per spec, do that.

Do i need a belt tensioner for the serpantine belt? I am replacing the alternator.

If the tensioner is still working fine, don't worry about it. These rarely give problems, and are easy to replace, so if for some reason it does go out down the road, it's no big deal. When you have the belt off, check the tensioner for play in the pulley. If there's no play, and you haven't been hearing squealing in the belt when you start the car up, your tensioner is fine as is.

Serpantin belt replacement? I need a manual!!!

You need a 14mm socket on a extended breaker bar,
place on automatic tensioner center pulley bolt which is the dumpy pulley located above the alternator.
Move the nut to tighten which will move spring loaded tensioner to low side which will allow you to slip belt off.....installlation is the reverse

AC Belt squeaks on my 2002 Lexus es300

When belts squeak it's either from dryness wear or tension / tightness / looseness affecting alignment.

Check for tightness and you can spray with belt dressing and try some WD40 on the compressor pulley.

If none of that doesn't stop it it very well could be the clutch or pulley is stiff from non use and could need replacing soon.
