Engine seemed to skip at about 70 mph and service engine light came on. Then seemed to skip several more times at different speeds. Ran fine. Just continued to skip as we drove.

Drriving slower than 45 mph engine light comes on

Without error code it is hard to tell what the actual problem is? So, get your ride check for error code, any auto shop will do this free of cost. After getting error code, update your answer so that you can get the correct solution. Also you mentioned that Engine cylinder 6 is skipping strokes; the reason for the cause can be:

1. Faulty Spark Plugs

2. Damaged plug wiring

3. Faulty Distributor

4. Damaged Ignition coil

My check engine light came on about a month ago. Code was catalytic converter. Teh light went off/away on its own. Van ran fine to me & made no noise. Sometimes it would miss/skip once it hit 10 mph....

the catalytic converter might be disabled due to a problem with ignition coils. They most likely need to be replaced. Here is a site (click link) with people describing similar problems, including the hesitation/miss/skip followed by the engine running roughly and cat problems. Engine coils are the most likely culprit, common with your vehicle unfortunately

Engine skips when the speed is 59mph then at 70 mph

sure it's skipping? Could be trans or torque converter hunting. Try locking out o/d and see if it stops or changes to a different speed but same rpm.

I have a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 5.2 v8. Engine was lugging check engine light came on as engine quit. Pulled over turned off the key and it restarted and ran fine. Went to Auto ZOne they said...

Hello there, One of the problems Jeeps do have is Transmissions. It is very typical of the sensors and solonoid packs to go bad, Also Jeeps as well have well know problems with the computer causing transmission issues as well.

I suggest taking it to a shop other than a parts store they are great for basic info but a repair shop can actually look at what each sensor is doing in real time.

You are on the right track and I would most definetly address this asap rather than causing internal transmission problems.

Good luck and I hope this helps.

Service engine light -- on then off, then on, then off

If it's the check engine light, I'd look at the radiator for partial internal obstruction...In colder temps or running at speed it tends to run a bit cooler. RPM change may be computer attempting to compensate for this. I'm not a KIA expert, but this applies to any vehicle. Also check your coolant level. If it's low it will also act this way.
