Hi, have a 2004 Dodge Intrepid 6cy Automatic 2.7L. Was told my issue is resulting in the replacement of a solenoid pack, but I just wanted a second opinion. When the car is driven over 50MPH for a while, then drops back under 40mph the car does not seem to want to switch 'gears'. I went to the grocery and the RPMs were zooming just above 4rpms and I was only going 35mph. The car will seem to jump (which is freaking me out) about this time when you are trying to accelerate. We just don't want to get screwed as car repairs are high enough without people (like the guy we just took it to the other day) saying it will start at $400-500 because he's go to go in and 'figure it out'. Which I know means fixing things that probably aren't necessary! We really need to simply fix the issue as this is a bad time to have the money to even do that. Thanks!
The SAME thing is happening with my 2004 Dodge Intrepid - had it checked out, mechanic said ti was either the Solenoid Pack or Valve Body - and would cost about 300-400 for the solenoid and could be over 800 if its the valve body. I havent had it fixed yet because everyone who has the solenoid replaced says that it keeps happening...what else can I do> It's stuck in 2nd gear and wont go over 30mph!!
Not sure exactly what the "solution" was but I had the problem above dated May 8th 2009. After a new solenoid kit and repeated trips to my general garage that did not help at all, I finally took the car to a local transmission place and described everything I knew about the problem, including that I was leaning towards an electrical problem now since it was happening in the rain or morning dew a lot and restarting the engine usually fixed it for a little while. He spent two hours on the car testing all wires related to the trans and making sure the wires were connected firmly into the wiring harnesses. He charged me for the two hours, no parts required. After that wire check, I have had no problems to date!
I really wish I didn't spend that $700 on the solenoid kit and labor since that obviously did not fix my problem.
Dash lights and radio light is blinking-----why?
My Intrepid had the problem of not shifting past first gear and I happened to notice that the speedometer wasn't working either. They both happen to be on the same fuse. Check that first. In my case, the speed sensor was bad but only cost about $150 to fix. Otherwise, it would have probably been a couple of grand.
Just put my 2004 Dodge Intrepid SE in the shop. I couldn't go over 35 mph for any long distances. so basically i've been in town bound for a long time. even a lot in town, when starting to go it would shift hard or there would be a delay in the shift. Also the engine light had been on. had it hooked up to a diagnostic and it ended up being the valve body to the transmission and the engine light was due to a leak in the hose to the evap canister. a little expensive, but not as bad as what it could've been.
Working on transmissions can get pretty expensive cuz they are complicated to diagnose. so starting at 400-500 seems a bit high for a solenoid pack but you can always try to shop around. Talk to parts store managers they usually know where the good shops are

Hello I have a 2004 Intrepid and it has been a total nightmare. Last June after a hard rain my car got stuck in gear and so I took it to the dealership and they repaced the solenoid pk. Only three months later it happened again. I had to take it back and they fixed it again. Each time having my car for over a week. This continued to happen for a year every month or two and has been worked on over 7 times for the same issue within a year. My warranty was up at 70,000 miles and I am very nervous now. I was told to purchase an extended one but I feel that the car should be labeled as defective. They should have to continue to fix it until it is done correctly. Well guess what? As I was on my way home this evening my light came on once again and the car shifted weird. As always it is raining outside. Why can't they fix it right? I also want to make it clear that each and every time the car has the same code. How should I handle this? I cannot seem to get Crysler to help me even though it has happened this many times.
Oh my GOD!!! my car does the exact same thing, i mean to a tee....i thought i was the only one with this problem. It really sucks.
2004 dodge intrepid 79,500 miles, had car for a year things were ok, after a year my car would not shift properly ended up getting a solenoid pack,$770.00 check engine light came back on same issues, i was told the pressure switch that was part of the solenoid pack was bad they put another in it now i am waiting to see if the check engine light comes back on. also, had to get a new alternator which was almost $800.00 because the alternator is between the frame and the engine, so labor got a little costly, also, i needed a battery the battery is located on the passenger side and you have to take the tire off, whoever put this car together was highhhhhhhh.
how to replace solenoid
I have a similar problem, 2004 Dodge Intrepid around 70k miles (not sure of exact miles since it's at the shop right now). My car wont go out of low gear, not sure if it is first or second, I have heard this is called "limp" mode. It runs perfectly fine, just only in that one gear, so driving 45+ mph the engine is reving pretty high. Mechanic said solenoid kit needs to be replaced at the cost of $250 for parts and $300 for laybor. Not sure if this is a good deal or not...
What are the trouble codes the transmission is setting?
