I have a 2004 impala that did the same thing..the ignition switch needs to be replaced

Actually it could be the security feature on the car. GM has had numerous complaints about the passlock security feature on their vehicles and it is a very common problem. the passlock system is designed to disable fuel and wont allow the car to turn over. there are numerous sites out there that offer solutions to either bypass this feature or permanently disable it

We have a 2003 implala that does the same thing BUT we have two keys...One works great everytime...the other takes a few trys or more to turn. We were told the ignition was bad 5 years ago BUT we use the good key and life is good..check the key!

My 2005 chevy impala won't start since someone broke into my car
i would say when the person broke into your car they set off the security system which stops the car from starting, the way to reset the security is to put your key into the ignition turn the key until all the dash lights come on and let them stay on about 15 minutes after the 15 minutes have expired turn the key off and wait about 3 seconds and then your car should start. hope this helps.

It has nothing to do with the starting system

You said you have to play with the key & ignition switch

The alternator is not charging,or the battery wont take a charge.If all accessories work fine when its running after you've boosted it,its likely the battery.

If you try to start the vehicle and there is a click when you turn the key, but does not start, you may have a solenoid problem. This is usually about 3 inches long and 1.5 inches in diameter and attaches to your starter. Try giving it a sharp tap with a hammer as this is often enough to loosen contact points inside.

I have a chevy impala 2001,i took it to the chevy house and they ran a dynostic and they told me it needed the ignition control module and the ignition swith,so i replaced them both but the car shows to be...
try this install the new key in the ignition switch. turn on the ignition switch to the on position for 10 minutes.when the system led lock light disappear.turn off the ignition switch for 5 seconds.then start the engine.still dont start.try this procedure few more times.if car still dont crank and you see the pad lock symbols.the dealership will have to reprogram the new key and body control module.

Do you have battery power? If not, I'm not sure the key switch will unlock.

Try under the dash, attached to colum is a switch that the rod goes into from your ignition key switch, that may need to be adjusted tword your steering wheel just a touch, they go out of alignmnet from time to time
