I have an 08 Accent. It stalled a few days ago shortly after starting, but started easily again. Today it took 4 tries to get it started. Each time it would chug for a few seconds and stall again. The 4th time I gave it some gas while it was chugging and the engine smoothed out and ran fine.

Sounds like a classic crankshaft position sensor problem to me.

One of the power wire going from your ecm to a sensor or solenoid is shorting to ground. Get a wiring diagram and an ohm meter. disconnect the battery and start checking each wire measuring from the wire to ground. as you wiggle you will see the meter show 0 ohms when it is shorted. These are the hardest and most time consuming kind of electrical problems .good luck

I would say it may be the distributor, I would start there first. You may want to try a tune up first to see if it helps and I would definitely get my battery checked out since winter is approaching and it has been run down a few times. hope this helps tim

It sounds like you may have picked up some small debris from the bottom of the gas tank when you ran it empty. You may need to run a fuel/injector cleaning solution through the next tank of gas to clear the debris and consider changing your fuel filter too. Sea Foam is a great fuel additive and I recomment trying it full strength. Hope this helps!

I need more details. When the car stalls, does it start right up?? When it stalls does the speedometer drop to zero while in motion?? and is there any warning lights not lit when it stalls??

take it to a Dealer and have a scanner put on it.Sounds like a fuel pump or possibly a sensor gone south.

ok when the check engine light comes on that usually indicates a engine malfunction...what you can do is go to your local autozone and they can do an OBDII test for free..my bet says it is the cam or crank sensor.. DO NOT SHUT THE CAR OFF AT AUTOZONE..LOL

check the plug going into the top of the coil ,also check your ignition modual it only takes a small spark to short it out

you may want to see if your catalitic converter is clogged up. I had a car that had that problem, when you drove too much it would die and wouldn't start for a long time after that. I had the converter replaced and now it drives just fine. May not be the same problem but it could be. and most muffler shops will check for a small fee if not for free.
