2001 525i, when starting the car it stallls out,I turn it off and re-start and it starts right up. I can drive for a while and then the RPM's will be high and when I stop at a redlight, it starts to stall out, I can shut it down and re-start and it's fine.... Any suggestions. Check engine light is on.

SOURCE: 2000 323i stalling when i slow down

Here is what you need to do, a cleaning of the intake throttle blade and the idle speed control air-bypass valve, they get full of gunk over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls) like yours,
Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the engine at idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake

SOURCE: Car hesitates/stalls when engine is warm and car starts to move.

Sounds like a bad motor mount, pop the hood and see if the motor shakes or moves rapidly when u put it in gear holding down the brake.

SOURCE: truck runs with high rpm or stalls out tripping

Hi! You definitely have a faulty MAF (mass air flow) sensor. The MAF has big contribution on engine performance specially the idling. Once the MAF is replaced you'll be good. Hope this helps and have a good one!

How is your air filter element?
Dirty fuel will do the same.
Check those and if is ok test spark plug leads and coil.
Stop using ethanol if you are.

Stalling

It could be the booster. The booster uses engine vac to "boost" the pressure your foot applies to the master cylinder. If the booster has a leak in the diaphragm it could cause a huge vac leak for the engine. But usually a leak that size wound not be at random times. And you would hear a hissing noise.
It could be something electrical too.

High rpm after putting in drive

first.... is this when the engine is cold or at operating temp. or does it make a difference.
it would help to know what make model and year, that being said, high idle is generally caused by vacuum leak somewhere or dirty throttle body . does it have a vacuum brake booster or power steering brake booster?

1996 olds aurors wont start without stalling immediatley

Sounds like the fuel pump or the relay.
You'll need to figure out if it is a fuel or ignition problem to proceed.
Is the check engine light on ?

Car died and won't start

If the Rpm gauge is not responding while turning over you are not getting a pip signal from the distributor, if no rpm replace distributor

I have an 89 caprice with a 400 small block in it when i let it run it turs off ? i dont know whats wrong

This may be due to a bad control module but i would need more info. after it stallls will it start right back up or do you have to wait a while. if it takes a while for it to start up then you will need to check and see if its lacking fuel or spark. good luck.
