Should be in line with the air intake. Locate air cleaner box. Follow large intake tube, rubber, about 3 inch diameter, to intake. Along the way look for a box in line. There should be an electrical connection going to it. That box should be the Mass Airflow Sensor. If you want to remove first disconnect battery to be safe and then disconnect the electrical connection. Should find a hose clamp either side of box. Loosen both and pull rubber tube back to release box. The actual sensor is inside. Just look through cener of box and you'll see something like a bar. The air flow sensor itself is much like a fragile ribbon of metal. VERY DELICATE. I've heard and headed that you should only use Mass Airflow Sensor cleaner as other automotive solvents are too harsh and leave a residue. The sensor can't tolerate any residue. In fact that's why you and I are about to clean it or have it cleaned. I'm getting Code P2187 Bank 1 Lean at idle. If the mass airflow sensor 'thinks' it has the correct amount of air but doesn't the injectors could be backing off delivery of fuel and assist in creating my 'lean' condition.
The Mass Airflow sensor is held in the air intake hose to the engine from the air cleaner by 2 approx 4" large hose clamps, unplug the connector to it and loosen the hose clamps on each side of the sensor and pull off flexible air intake hoses on each side of the aluminum body of the sensor and remove the sensor assembly. See picture below.
mass air flow sensor is located on the air intake duct right past the air filter, u need to release the two clamps that hold it in place. use either a 7 or 8mm socket, this would be in a 1/4 inch drive, or can also use a regular blade screwdriver, depending on clamp. after loosing clamps remove electrical wiring connector by depressing the release tab, push in first and then pull out. pull air intake hose off and remove sensor from air cleaner assembly.careful not to pull wires. but pull rubber grommet from housing so wires will pass through
The mass flow sensor on the 1999 intrigue is along the intake tube right
after the air filter intake housing. Loosen the two clamps that hold the
MAF sensor between the Air filter box cover and air intake tube,
disconnect the wire leads at the MAF sensor connection and remove the
MAF. Note it's uncommon for the MAF sensor to go bad and 95% of the
time, cleaning it with MAF sensor with MAF cleaner will fix any problem
it may of had to trigger the DTC codes.
Start with trying to clean it first just by following the instruction on
the MAF cleaner. This should save you time and money to get your Intrigue
running 100% again soon.

Removal & Installation
Disconnect the negative battery cable.
Loosen the hose band and remove the intake hose.
To remove the mass air flow sensor, first detach its wire harness connection
Next, remove the sensor-to-air cleaner housing retaining bolts and loosen the air intake pipe clamp
Pull the sensor out of the air cleaner housing
Inspect the air flow sensor sealing ring and replace as needed
Remove the airflow meter attaching bolts and detach the wire harness connector.
Remove the airflow meter from the air cleaner housing.
Installation is the reverse order of the removal procedure.
hi from the uk the location of mass air flow sensor on x type jag is as follows==it is on the r/h/side of the air filter cover with jaguar embossed on top? this sensor is just prior to the intake hose that connects to the motorised throttle body from filter connections underneath it to unplug and meter is held by two screws ?if memory serves ? may i suggest you remove the large hose and use a little wd40 or similar to clean /lubricate the throttle butterfly in throttle body throat at this point so as to prevent future sticking upsetting of idling ? hope this helps ?
