1. About 2 years ago my 96 tacoma 4x4 3.4L V6 began losing power and sputtering while on a long trip. I pulled into the nearest Toyota Dealer who put it on the analyzer and said #4 cylinder wasn't firing. Changed plugs, then wires and coils. Sometimes ran beter sometimes worse. Long story short I am now trying to fix it. Primary candidate seems to be Ignition Control Module. Perhaps the igniter as well. Anything else I should consider before buying a new - pricey ICM? 2. Where is the ICM located? I found the igniter above the right wheel well but I can't find the ICM anywhere (maybe THAT's the problem)

Stick a 12 volt test lite in the coil negative side, it should flash while the engine crank's, it will be dim, more like a pulsing glow, if this is not present the Crankshaft position sensor may be defective or the wiring to it. Make sure to check around the engine for any damaged wiring, places where the eng moves the most or the harness runs over something.

Change your plug wires. If you want to, switch wires with another cylinder. If the misfire moves to the new cylinder, you found your bad wire.

Seems like you replaced everything on the ignition but the cap. Sounds like a good place to look to me.
Look for burn marks around contacts.

SOURCE: obd error code p1315 on

P1315 is a misfire in bank 4. P1315 Igniter Circuit Fault (Bank #4) . If that is the case you will need to replace the #4 coil, which is the one closest to the drivers side. I also would advise using original factory coil. At times the resistance of aftermaket coils will be a little diffrent from the other ones and cause problems.

Replace the ignition coil in number 4 cylinder.----------This should help.Thanks.Helpmech.

Hydrocarbons (HCs) are unburned fuel. You may need to replace sparkplugs and wires, if this has been done or doesn't fix the problem you catalytic converter may be worn out.

Most likely just a dirty fuel filter. You may have got a load of contaminated fuel. Why not try that first as it won't cost much.
Keep a spare with you as you might require another until the bad fuel is used up.(if a new filter is the cure)

It seems to me you may have a very lean air/fuel mixture so when you open the throttle for more air there is no corresponding fuel coming to give you enough power.
My first port of call would be the fuel filter. It may be clogged as you rightly point out. If there is no engine check light on that will iliminate the sensors. I'm sure you would have noticed fuel leaks though what would seem like very high fuel consumption so what remain is the pump.

Some garages may have a fuel pressure gauge to check the pressure but it's a lot cheaper just to replace the fuel pump. The old pump may sometimes have intermittent failure which a pressure gauge may not pick up.

Clutch was replaced a year ago and now when i push the clutch it wont allow me to change gears and it sounds like an air pump

Hi,
That sounds like you have a problem in the pressure plate! Go to the nearest garage and pull down the transmission to replace the clutch assembly. But if you could get the warranty from the one who replace the clutch, inquire about it. Mostly the mechanic would replace the clutch assembly( clutch disc, pressure plate, and release bearing ). So that it will be a one time job.
Either you could tow your vehicle to the nearest garage or drive it( before starting the engine put the gear to 1st and let it start, slowly at 1st gear you could drive into the nearest shop ).
Hope that helps you out!

96 Toyota Tacoma lacks take off power and stumbles

Any trouble light? Sounds like it might be misfiring during acceleration which is more related to ignition quality than timing. Check the spark plugs--if badly worn, replace them. Might need new spark plug wiring. Check the air cleaner. Replace the O2 sensor if the truck has a lot of miles. Look for loose or cracked vacuum hoses.

Have you had the fuel pressure regulator checked? Also you might want to have the fuel pump relay checked.
