Explain :P0320 ignition engine speed input circuit malfunction: it was driveable but it just cut off and want run at all.

  • Anonymous Apr 25, 2009

i have been having the same problem. first it started off with just dieing mostly during idle or well when i stoped at red lights, stops signs but mostly at idle. then it started to die with no warning at 60 mph. and sometimes when i would try to start it back it seemed like it would try then backfire. i put it on an obd 2 reader and have had a code p1391 i looked it up and it was my camshaft position sensor so i replaced it. drove it for a couple of days started to happen again. tried to start it up and my digital milage guage started to flash and i noticed that it read p1391. finally got it home and i havent gotten it to start again all it will do is turn over and over (no fire) evenutally i had to take my battery out and charge it. but it back in negative cable first then the positive cable. tightened up my cables and tried to start it same result my digital milage guage started to flash again it read p0230. turned key off then back on to the on position without trying to start it. all of my guages moved for example 0-125mph. my checkengine light started to flash everytime i heard a clicking noise under the hood so i checked i heard it from the fuse box opened it and it was coming from my TCM relay and also on my sensor on my injector body so far i have replaced the spark plugs, the trottle body position sensor and my camshaft position sensor. started to replace the crankshaft position sensor but well i might aswell drop the transmission to get to the bell housing to get to it. i dont know what else to do

My truck was doing the same thing.... replaced the crankshaft sensor first, truck would still die after about 10 minutes of idleing, it back-fired thru the engine and blew off the back of the intake manifold. Pulled the monifold, reglued end-cap and put back in truck. STILL died after idleing for 10 minutes. Code PO320 kept coming up ( crankshaft sensor) researched it and found a bad camshaft sensor can cause crankshaft sensor to act up and give code for the crankshaft sensor. Replaced camshaft sensor and the truck runs like a dream !!!!!! I believe the Manifold was cracked for a while causing the 1299 code reading ( vacuum leak) the back-fire finished it off! I would check the back of your intake manifold for a leak. The combination of fixing the vacuum leak , cam/crankshaft sensors seems to have fixed the problem. GOOD LUCK!!!

What is the PO320 code? what is wrong with my 2005 Hyundai xg350L?

P0320 Hyundai Ignition/Distributor Engine Speed Input Circuit Possible causes
- Faulty Ignition/Distributor engine speed sensor
- Faulty Crankshaft Position sensor
- Ignition/Distributor engine speed sensor harness is open or shorted
- Ignition/Distributor engine speed sensor circuit poor electrical connection
- Low battery charge
- Faulty Engine Control Module (ECM)
What about the obd code?
The P0320 Hyundai code is triggered when the Engine Control Module (ECM) detects that there is no current at the ignition coil group
Symptoms
- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
- Lack/Loss of Power
- The engine may be harder to start
- The engine may stumble or stall
P0320 Hyundai Description
Ignition failure sensor is used to check whether the spark ignition is occurred correctly or not and also used to tachometer drive. The sensor monitors the voltage difference between a resistance which is on the battery circuit for ignition coil. When the ignition coil works properly, the electric current through the resistance is detected as voltage drop. This is confirmed for every ignition event with the crankshaft sensor and the camshaft sensor. If ECM detects a malfunction, no ignition is possible, so the engine would not start. If there is no ignition signal for a predetermined cycle for one or two ignition coils, an ignition coil circuit failure exists.

Trouble code P0320 ignition/dist. engine speed input circuit

P0320 - Ignition / distributor engine speed circuit malfunction

The ignition engine speed sensor input signal to Powertrain Control Module (PCM) or Electronic Control Module (ECM) is continuously monitored. The test fails when the signal indicates that 2 successive erratic profile ignition pickup (PIP) pulses occurred.

Symptoms:
- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
- Lack/Loss of Power
- The engine may be harder to start
- The engine may stumble or stall

When is the code detected?
The P0320 code is triggered when 2 successive erratic PIP pulses are detected.

Possible Causes:
- Loose wires/connectors
- Faulty Crank Position Sensors
- Arcing secondary ignition components (coil, wires and plugs)
- Low battery charge
- Powertrain Control Module

Possible Solutions:
- Resecure loose wire or connectors
- If battery charge is low, recharge or replaced battery
- Replaced crank position sensor
- Replaced starter motor
