Last time I had a Ford with your symptoms, it needed a fuel pump. When the vehicle ran out of fuel, it could have picked up debris from the bottom of the tank. Ideally the fuel filter would have caught these and perhaps been plugged - try replacing your fuel filter first, that may get you back on the road - otherwise chances are going to be with a damaged fuel pump.

How to tell if 1995 ra1 honda odyssey fuel pump working or not??

It sounds like there might be an air lock between the fuel pump and the carburetor. Disconnect the fuel line from the fuel pump at the carburetor. Get a coffee can or another container turn the fuel pump on or try and start the car. the fuel pump will pump fuel through the fuel line to fill it with fuel and push the air out of the line. When you get a steady stream of fuel , reconnect the fuel line to the carburetor, the car should start.

No fuel getting through to engine

If you continued to attempt to start the car after running out of fuel the fuel pump may have been damaged. The petrol in the tank acts as a coolant on the fuel pump and when the tank is empty if the starter is continuously engaged it can overheat and burn out the pump.

Ran out of gas and put more in now car wont start i drive a bmw 3 seies

running out of fuel sucks the dirt off the bottom of the tank it might have caused it to fail i think you can get to it from under the back seat you can see if the pump has power there as well

Ran out of petrol started shaking and cutting out now wont start at all

you have probably got a blockage in either the fuel filter or carb,so first check filter,if ok check carb.take fuel line of carb turn engine over see if fuel comes out if it does then filter ok if not change filter,

It ran out of petrol. We then put petrol in ,but now it wont start and the hold light is flashing on the dash

you can spray WD40 into the intake and see if it acts like it wants to start, if it does you may have air in the line, a fuel filter clogged or the fuel pump that is bad. Hope this helps Tim

Ran out of gas wont start now

if its petrol engine bang bottom of fuel tank while some one else cranks vehicle over if it starts good just pump jammed if it dont buzz to life and you cant hear fuel pump buzzing ceck for power to it if thats there replace pump. running out of fuel kills electric fuel pumps internally in petrol tanks.

if its diesel you must bleed fuel system taking extreme care if you un do lines some very high pressure

Car will not start

bleed the system. basically what i would suggest is putting at least 10 litres in tank (so pick up can get it). then turn key to 'on' position and wait to hear fuel pump cut out. turn key on and off 2 or 3 times then try and start it. please let me know if this works. if not i'll tell you how to check next step.
